Discussion: New Super PAC Ad Reservations Show Where Battle For Congress Will Be Fought

I have never seen it mentioned here that Lori Swanson is running for Governor in Minnesota. Rick Nolan will be her running mate. That explains why she did not want a shot at Franken’s seat. Cold as it can be, I’d rather stay in Minnesota than move to Washington.

That list of Republicans that the Leadership Fund supports is also a pretty good list for the good guys to target as well. If you have $50 or $20 you can spare, consider sending it to their opponents. (In case you are wealthy, I think you can send as much as $2700 to each candidate.)

What did the NRA reserve?

I will NOT be voting for Martha McSally as she runs for Jeff Flake’s seat in AZ. My dime is on Krysten Senima who would make a much better Senator than a trump ‘yes’ person boot licker.

Current Rep in PA is Brian Fitzpatrick, not Mike Fitzpatrick. Brian was brought back to PA to run for his brother’s seat when Mike retired last cycle.

There is a decent chance Polloquin here in Maine goes down, with a relatively energized Dem electorate and the governor’s race giving Dems still another reason to come out. 8 years of Dunderhead Paul LePage is enough to outrage anyone!

Rural Maine votes tomorrow to determine the Dem who will take on Polloquin in ME2. It’s being held with ranked choice voting, so we might not know for a few days.

I’m in one of the Dem leaning seats in California that is mentioned.

Russia will be funding Rohrabacher’s campaign.

I think Claire McCaskill has pretty much boiled down a key piece of this race to the pre-existing conditions issue. Most Dems gunning for GOP held House seats will do the same while throwing some m4a stuff to keep the base going.

I know the politics are very different, but it’s worth noting that the presidential race was considerably closer in Mississippi (57-40) than in Alabama (62-34), about the same results as in Missouri (57-38) where McCaskill looks in decent shape. It would be a hell of a miracle, but it’s not something to write off.

We have a better shot in MS with an Espy-McDaniel race than we do presently in TX. Beto is starting to change my view of it, but he’s not quite there yet. I need to see Beto really hit Cruz below the belt a few times.

Some really good candidates in that race, too, including an Afghan vet who’s served in the statehouse and another who made their bones creating and protecting the Katahdin Woods Nat’l Monument.

60 million here, 80 million there, just for a preemptive mid term add buy.

Anyone have an idea how these spending numbers compare with previous mid term buy ins?

Amy McGrath should beat Andy Barr in the KY 6th handily.

Is there any reason why a state like CA should not require of any PAC or Super PAC that buys an ad in a CA market, that it should disclose the sources of its funding in order to ensure that Russian or other foreign money is not undermining that state’s elections? And why should the state not require that disclosed sources themselves disclose the source of their income if in the reasonable opinion of the Secretary of State the first disclosure has not satisfied the objective of the disclosure requirement? In view of what transpired in 2016 (and is still ongoing), this would seem to be an entirely legitimate. PACs that don’t comply don’t get to run ads.

This is not First Amendment free speech.

Propaganda is biasing the national discourse, propaganda from a very few number of the same sources.

That report is delayed, because they’re still working on the conversion from Rubles.

I grew up in Lexington, and the Sixth District in primaries is very very different from the Sixth in the general. The rural counties that McGrath ran the table on in May have way more repugs than Democratic voters, and those counties are all going to go for Candy Barr in November. McGrath will have to keep every single Democratic vote she got in the primary PLUS a huge margin in Lexington. She has an excellent chance, but right now no better than 50-50.

By this measure, neither party thinks Senator Franken’s appointed successor, Tina Smith, formerly lt. governor and before that the executive director of the regional Planned Parenthood, will be seriously challenged by her GOP opponent. Great news! Well-known ethics commentator Richard Painter filed to oppose her in the August 14 primary, his first run for office. Democrats like him, of course, but can’t figure out why he chose to absent himself from TV appearances for 6 months for a likely loss to Tina, who was easily endorsed, liberal, and ethical.

On the other hand, Minnesota has contested Dem primaries among experienced, high profile candididates for most state-wide contests and has an open primary system. It’s not just progressive vs. moderate, it’s a “It’s MY turn” free-for all. For just one example, Keith Ellison filed for attorney general against the progressive endorsee, who in turn had blocked the re-endorsement of the 2-term, liberal current AG! The GOP is coping with Tim Pawlenty’s come-back campaign for governor against a highly Trumpy endorsee, which may minimize cross-overs.
