This reporting is the sloppiest I’ve seen here at TPM in a good long while. The whole point of the article is that Fat Nixon is underwater and yet the approve/disapprove stats are flipped.
And this part:
…Michigan and Wisconsin, two states he won in 2016, by double-digit margins
WTH? He barely won either of those states, let alone by double-digit margins (unless, of course, the reporter means that he won by a margin of 10 or more votes…)
Just as a little refresher, here are the actual vote counts from MI in 2016:
and here is the actual vote count from WI in 2016:
This is all presuming that polls, whether getting it right or not, are actually covering the reality. No, I do not think that reality was simply everyone missed the support for Trump. I am still a doubter that Trump actually won by “normal” methods. His attitude through the entire campaign was dismissive of everything that commonsense told us was pointing to his loss. Did we just presume he was being cocky at this point, knowing all we know now?
Cameron should be ashamed of himself and so should be Josh for hiring him. As you point out, he won MI by 0.3% and WI by 0.7%. A ten seconds google search would have revealed that.
So it is hardly a surprise that his approval will be under water in those two states. Also, there is enough evidence to suggest that in those two states, enough Berniacs either stayed home or voted for Stein to make the difference. Obviously, these voters aren’t going to like Drumpf.
It took me two reads , but I think the sentence was trying to say that putin’s Apprentice is underwater by double digits in the latest poll, which was conducted in three states he won (by razor thin margins)
The only election of concern right now is the one in November. I’d much rather see a head to head poll of Rs vs Ds.
That’s where the battles are. Would also like to know who votes in off years in these states.
Imagine their surprise when they find out that (like the tax cuts for billionaires) most of the promised $12 billion end up in the hands of the huge Agribusiness companies. But that’s okay, 'cause “Corporations are people too, my friend!”
I can think of two people I work with that are avowed Trumpeters. One of them is because he idolizes Reagan (to the point of even having the same fucking haircut), and the other is because that’s what they hear at church - Hillary was evil, and was pimping out toddlers at a pizza joint don’t you know?
One of the stories I saw recently was that in order to win the Dems actually have to poll like 8% higher than the GOP. I think that was for the presidency because of the natural advantages they have in the electoral college among the small population states, but it seems to be true for other elections too. So just to be safe we’d better GOTV like our lives depended on it.
