Discussion: New Poll: Texas Voters Prefer Trump By Just Three Points

It’s getting tough at the margins, now. Most of the supporters he has left aren’t going to let Trump or anyone else talk them out of voting for him.

Well you may assume what you wish but I do not think that voters ending up in the GOP column is anywhere near inevitable. I think I explained why too. Demographics, the Bushes are for Hillary, and I might mention Ted Cruz and I will mention the Southern Baptist Convention - it is against HO. I don’t have any idea how many supposed undecided votes there are up for grabs = I doubt many at all.

Early voting starts in Dallas Co. next Monday.

It’s a good question. I’d think some will not vote, some will go GOP.

Gender divide has been so huge in this election that I also wonder how many women will vote for Hillary once they are in the voting booth. A lot of women are going to answer these phone polls while their husband is in the room and I wouldn’t be surprised if a fair number say one thing on the poll (to avoid starting a fight with their spouse) but then voting blue on Election Day. Even if it’s 5 percentage points, that could be the difference in Texas.

I think she’ll take Texas. There are a lot of undecided voters there still because most of them are coming to grips with the fact that voting for Trump is utterly irresponsible. They don’t want to vote for Hillary but, in the end, they know they’ll have to. They’re just postponing facing that reality for as long as they can.

The fact that factions inside the Southern Baptist Convention are vehemently anti-Trump is good for millions of votes in Texas - we have the largest Baptist church on the planet. There is a rift right now in the evangelical right over this and it’s going to have an effect on this election. Baptist women in particular, because women really don’t want to see HO win.

No he needs to throw more insults at the mexicans. That always works well in Texas.

The real question is how many of the estimated 3 million eligible, but unregistered, voters managed to get registered this year and actually vote.

I’d be curious to see the internals on these polls too. I wonder what demographic model is being used, particularly in terms of ethnicity. An increase of 1-2% in the minority voter turnout and a 1% reduction in Republican turnout (due to “not Trump, but never Hillary” voters), could be all it takes.

Of course those kind of demographic swings will just load the cannon for HO to claim Texas cheated…

I couldn’t care less what HO says if Hillary wins Texas. I’ll be so elated that I probably won’t be capable of hearing that voice.

It depends … how much … ummmmm … “pregaming” will there be before the debate :wink::wink::wink:

Texas voter here, in Dallas County, who is exceptionally delighted to vote this year.

Just some observations:

  1. The Texas Democratic Party 2016 convention was exceptional and enthusiastic. The Republican one not so much. While this does not translate to votes it spoke volumes about enthusiasm.

  2. Home Senator/Drama Queen Ted Cruz won Texas handily in the Republican primary. There is bitterness among Cruz folks. Folks who might not show up to vote.

  3. Dallas County Democrats have an outstanding field program. I’ve observed it in action. I say this as somebody who has worked on campaigns around the country for over a decade. There are other Democratic strongholds around the state doing the same work.

  4. Donald Trump has been picking fights with “Mexicans” the whole election. I’m a white guy but my neighborhood has become plurality Hispanic in the past decade. And people are energized. I’ve never seen anything like it.

  5. Some of my neighbors drive to Mexico every Christmas to visit family. The concept of a “Wall” repulses them.

  6. One of our Governor’s favorite talking points is how he brings corporate headquarters to Texas. Well, guess what - these are suburbanites from California, etc., who are well educated. See what I mean?

Another Texas voter here, Harris County (Houston), which is not as conservative as Dallas County but not as liberal as Travis County (Austin). The surrounding counties are more conservative than Houston proper. I can only report on personal anecdotes, which are pretty much worthless, but whatever.

I don’t usually talk politics with my conservative, Republican friends, but with the Trump tape, the subject has come up with my women friends. I’ve been surprised at how many of them, otherwise dyed in the wool Republicans, either say they can’t vote for Trump or are severely torn and undecided. Don’t get me wrong, these folks are almost universally Never Hillary, but Trump may have managed to suppress a chunk of the otherwise reliable Texas Republican vote. Note that we don’t have a senate or gubernatorial election this cycle to otherwise drive turnout.

I don’t remember her ever appearing to be in it from the polls. There was a lot of excitement because of her filibuster, but never enough support.

Monday early voting starts. That makes it Hill day for me. I want mine counted, even if lightning strikes me on Halloween. I am sooo ready to vote.

I was born in Texas and I have relatives there that plan to vote for Pumpkinhead. I have tried to argue with them, but the koolaid is very strong. I am just hoping to see it turn blue in my lifetime.
