OCare/T***pCare repeal/replace failed in its first try. The second attempt was successful, but it seems to be going nowhere in the Senate. I have not seen anyone credit the hard working folk who contacted their Congress Critter by phone, by email, by snail mail, by personal visit, and–most visibly–by town hall meeting. It’s good to see credit going where credit is due.
I think a two or three point win in a solidly republican district IS a crushing victory. Work like you are two of three points behind, however. If Ossoff wins this it will change the trajectory of a lot of things. That is guaranteed.
Okay. Now, before the GOP stealth runs the youtube video showing him morphing into an image of Leo Frank/Saul Alinsky/Baron Rothschild, will someone please run the numbers and report how many people in that district will lose Medicaid now that Trump’s promise is “overridden”?
So much ^THIS^, Dems need to knock on doors everywhere and talk to people. That is the best way to campaign and govern. Education and polling is important but, it needs to be combined with talking to people everywhere to a) know exactly what they care about (polls worded by other people don’t always show that) and b) show you care so they care back.
We need to be very wary of these polls & how they can impact voter sentiment. Not just because the polls themselves may be unreliable, but thinking Ossoff has this in the bag may cause some Dems to not make the effort to vote. Then the reasoning goes- he doesnt really need my one vote, he will win anyway, so I can skip voting . I know quite a few Dems who did not make the effort to vote for HC because they were convinced by multiple polls that HC would win & by a landslide, so in their mind, their vote was not really necessary.
Apparently voting has already begun for the June 20 runoff – absentee voting has been allowed since May 2 (with a June 16 deadline to mail them), and in-person early voting begins May 30 – SO IF YOU ARE IN, OR KNOW SOMEONE IN, GEORGIA’S 6TH DISTRICT, PLEASE VOTE AS SOON AS YOU ARE ABLE TO (or ask the person you know to do so) - DON’T wait until June 20, because “something could come up.” Democrats are lucky that Georgia is pretty fair and (dare I say) liberal in allowing extensive early voting, so please please please please do it.
Note that I live in Oregon so here is the obligatory plug for universal vote-by-mail – every state should be doing it, having your ballot that you can fill out on your own time and drop in the mailbox or at a collection station is the single greatest change to our voting system that we could do to make USA democracy work better.
The polls are reliable, people just keep forgetting to subtract 5-10% from what the Democratic candidate’s numbers to take into account voter suppression that will occur on election day.
Russia, if you’re listening, it would be great if you could dig up some dirt on the Thieving Karen Handel.
If Putin is paying attention to this race and wants to affect the outcome, he’ll do it on behalf of Handel. Putin wants Congress to be as compliant as possible for Trump.
I’m curious about the extent to which the poll results are due to voters actually preferring Ossoff to Handel versus simply wanting to express displeasure and anger over Trump.
