The Pivot Begins
What do we need to do to get it up to 25 points? Or 50? Maybe more free air time for Trump.
Only 5 points? Against a racist lying con man? Really?
Shouldn’t Hillary be doing better than 47-42?
And shouldn’t Donald be doing worse?
I won’t be able to sleep without double digits.
The poll was conducted after Orlando. That probably skewed it a bit.
Because Trump sounded incoherent and irrational after Orlando?
Edit: Okay, he always sounds that way.
Who is supporting him? I don’t understand how it is only 5 points. He has no campaign, he has no money, he doesn’t have staffers on the ground, he just fired his campaign manager and on and on. Who are they polling?
It might very well have been tied had Drumpf not come off with the flaming insane rhetoric. It isn’t a permanent effect, unlike the deaths of the victims in Orlando.
The previous CNN/ORC poll was taken at the beginning of May. Since then Clinton has clinched the nomination and Trump has stepped on his dick on a near-daily basis, yet her support declines 7 points? Who are they polling—Orcs?
If the explanation for the decline is Orlando—which would be idiotic, but we’re talking about American voters—then why didn’t Trump’s numbers show a corresponding increase?
It should be noted that Stein is getting 7%. I can’t find a previous CNN poll number for her before Clinton clinched so it’s not clear whether Stein’s numbers were affected or not.
The poll was conducted with 60% landlines and 40% cell phones, but that was the same split for the May 1 poll which had Clinton 7 points higher.
They are probably just trying to scare folks into getting out and voting this fall.
Trump is openly robbing the piggy bank and still fooling 40% of the voters. He is also apparently fooling the Republican leadership. The fix is in. I predict a payoff and plausible non-psychiatric Doctor’s Note excuse just before the convention. Forty percent of the voters are dumb enough to fall for it. Republican voters have gotten screwed so much they like it.
The BBC sez a bonkers Brit wanted to shoot Trump in Vegas.
How?
I wonder. Even with the Fear card the GOPers play when a massacre occurs, I wouldn’t think there would be that many people who would actually vote for Drumpf. However, as hard as it is to believe, there are still a lot of people not paying the closest of attention to the election coverage. That will change in a month or two.
Because it’s Clinton. If it were Biden or Sanders, or any competent candidate really, it would be much higher.
But don’t worry, Clinton is the more electable one right? Just tell yourself that over and over.
Really terrifying, isn’t it? How in 2016 can someone as clueless and racist as Trump have that many followers.
He’s the most frightening candidate I’m seen in my 74 years, and I lived through Wallace and Goldwater!!
I’m really stuck this year because I don’t care one ounce for Hillary either, the worse set of candidates from the very beginning to this dreadful end!!!
For the most part, less educated white people[1], who live in areas of the country with high degrees of racial resentment, who want to “wage battle” against outsiders and are willing to give up liberties for security, and who feel they have no political voice. Also, don’t forget Hillary Derangement. And, there’s a lot of these folks, more than you might think. We at TPM, Darcy notwithstanding, tend to overestimate the number of outside people who believe as we do. Clinton will win, but it won’t be a cakewalk. I don’t think it will be a Clinton landslide at all. I’m hoping she’ll at least get a mandate. But the important thing is to keep in mind that the MSM is ginning up Horserace controversy. Don’t get caught up in it.
[1]Edit. As an old white guy, I have to admit, I no longer claim to be able to understand most other white men. Maybe it’s just living in Arizona, but I don’t think so. We white guys have some serious shit to work through.
TPM:
Among registered voters, 47 percent say they support Clinton while 42 said they would vote Trump in a general election matchup.
I’m glad that Clinton is leading by 5 points, but kind of flabbergasted that Trump can pull in more than 27%.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been predicting that Trump would get the GOP nomination since June of last year, when most people still thought the prospect of his candidacy was a joke. But that was on the basis that the 27% crazified voters would be about 70% of the Republican primary electorate.
It says something really SAD! about 42% of the voters in this country that Trump can still poll that high.
