Don’t expect Betsy to do anything. Fraud is part of her family’s business model.
Devious DeVos’ devilry is deviant and devoid of justice.
These schools are the worst kinds of fraud. They are parasitical businesses that feed on people who are making an effort to acquire skills and improve their lives. The parasites steal their money and their time, and leave their students with debt that makes it impossible to try again at a real school.
DeVos and her parasitical pals are disgusting and immoral, but reserve some blame for the elected officials that happily put the legislation in place to enable these shoddy schools to operate with virtually no financial risk and virtually no oversight or accountability for the quality of their services.
I find it astounding that we now have to sue government agencies to force them to do their jobs. Just a few short years ago, it was all the rage to sue to stop them from implementing and carrying out new regulations. What has changed, I wonder…and remember, Trump only hires the “best people”…and Betsy DeVos.
I keep wondering why that vacuous woman keeps smiling like that and then I remember what vacuous means.
The rich have concocted all types of schemes to scam the middle and lower classes. They have no shame. When will the American people see through it? It’s not just this. Look at Whitefish and the scam they tried to run before being caught…praying on the taxpayer to line their own pockets. The list goes on and on. Wake up, people.
Empty.
“DeVos says she is intent on protecting students’ rights, but says the Obama regulations were too lax and could allow for some applicants to abuse the system.”
This is what the right wing means by “limited government” – limit the redress that the public can receive from predatory special interests.
Already, the Trump administration reversed regulations that require retirement investment advisors to act in a fiduciary manner on behalf of their clients, that allow for class-action lawsuits against financial firms, as well as others designed to protect the public.
DeVos seems more concerned that a student might “game the system” than with institutionalized corruption and abuse of federal student loan programs.
But I’m sure she’ll come up with some toothless “sensible regulations” that the for-profit sharks might find acceptable.
I hope devos can be charged with criminal violations of the Constitution and impeached and thrown in jail
Betty deVries: The #1 reason college students are overwhelmingly liberal.
Republicans just don’t get it — plausible deniability and all that, lol.
It’s a very sad commentary when the Cabinet Secretaries must be sued to remind them they work for the American people.
No, it’s deeper than that…
Vacuous: so empty she sucks…
The current operational assumption for these clowns is that they serve at the pleasure of the President. That Senate confirmation business is an archaic formality…
Can you imagine the screaming if some regulation were pulled back for fear that a company might “game the system”? Last time that happened was with accelerated charitable remainder trusts, and that was just because there wasn’t anyone who wasn’t gaming the system.
Everything you said, plus they also leech off taxpayer-backed loan guarantees, job development funding, etc.
The contemporary GOP is stuffed full of people who believe (or assert) that government programs are rife with “waste, fraud, and abuse”. Oddly enough, when you look closely, those making the charge often seem to be the ones with their own snouts shoved furthest into the trough.
No, I cannot imagine it. This regime is all about comforting the comfortable and afflicting the afflicted.
Lord knows we need to do something to shore up the public education system in this country - bringing Betsy Devos into a position of power was like pouring gasoline on a fire.
The fact that she was appointed because her family donated millions to Republican causes is just a microcosm of what is happening to the country as a whole. You can no longer play in politics unless you are a millionaire. There are a few rare exceptions, but this is becoming the standard for Democrats as well as Republicans. This is an upward trend that has been going on for years, and every time they debate food stamps or unemployment benefits I always think of this fact.
Long live the plutocracy!
