Public buildings are pretty much by definition…public. They belong to we the people. As such, I believe his point is that as an American citizen, he has every right to be in a public building and take photos of its architecture, monuments, etc. And I would further guess that his investigation was to see if that was actually true. Which apparently he found out…not exactly.
For what its worth, I don’t feel much sympathy for the cop here. His “stupid comment” was basically saying what he really felt when his stress level started to rise. And I for one am deeply concerned about this rising notion that local law enforcement is suddenly empowered to by the interpreters of the Constitution ala the Bundy claim that sheriffs should disarm all federal officials and are the real power in the country.
This is the result of the Big Lie tactics of the GOPTP: they get fools to believe that what they are claiming is true and an excuse to act however they want. Shame on the Republicans and shame on the news media for giving them such a big platform for lying.
I remember the Nixon Watergate stuff: it was a long, long process of unfolding new evidence after new disclosures. And the “I” word was not mentioned until the very end… This hot air about impeaching a rather impeccable president is a very very ill wind.
Recine should have just shot Wronko dead, then he’d be on paid leave instead of unemployment.
I love his description of why he got mad. As if it’s justified because that pesky pee-on citizen kept insisting on having his constitutional rights respected, even after 911!
Decimation (Latin: decimatio; decem = “ten”) was a form of military discipline used by senior commanders in the Roman Army to punish units or large groups guilty of capital offences such as mutiny or desertion. The word decimation is derived from Latin meaning “removal of a tenth”.[1] The procedure was a pragmatic, yet vicious, attempt to balance the need to punish serious offences with the practicalities of dealing with a large group of offenders.[2]
But but but… if they wait for the Supreme Court to decide, then where’s the part where they get to take up arms and form a militia and start defendin’ the Constitution? You’ve clearly misunderstood the Founders’ intent.
Could we get serious about testing these people before allowing them to assume positions where citizens livesare in danger…they should meet frequent and stringent requirements concerning IQ,drugs and psychological health. Rambling misfits could be kept at a minimum unlike what seems to be happening presently.
But he wasn’t just “taking photos of its architecture”, was he? This apparently started when Wronko got a puppy at the local animal shelter. It turned out to be sick and cost him a lot in vet bills, so he went after the shelter to pay the bills. Some stuff happened that isn’t really documented in the press involving him taking videos of discussions at the shelter and getting tossed out. Now here he is in another municipal building, conspicuously taking a bunch of video in what seems to be an attempt to force the issue about whether he’s allowed to be in municipal buildings. He wants a discussion w/ officers, he got one.
Wronko told reporters “It isn’t about the money,” which as we all know means it’s about the money.
Edit: “Wronko’s wife said Wednesday that she and her husband were at the municipal building to file public record requests.” It’s weird, I somehow always manage to run errands at city hall without getting hassled by the cops.
oh for gods sake…“I don’t have to follow the law because some guy I don’t like won an election does stuff that I don’t think is constitutional”
how very “I never grew beyond fifth grade in emotional development” of you, Officer.
your President was duly elected by the majority of Americans and deserves to shown respect as that also shows respect for that electorate. They are your fellow Americans, you twit.
and second…it is not for law enforcement officers anywhere to decide on their own what’s constitutional.
regardless of who is in the Oval Office.
I didn’t particularly like George W but I am appalled time and time again that this lack respect shown to the winners of a general election (Bush WON his second term) which by extension shows disrespect to the electorate who voted for them.
America brags ad nauseum about what great nation it is…well you can’t do that and keep spitting leaders of parties for whom you didn’t vote.
and don’t bring the whole…well the article says he’s a registered Democrat. The Obama/Clinton primary season was hard fought and nasty and I suspect to this day there’s lingering resentment.
In seriousness, though, you’ve touched on an issue I’m trying to resolve in my own understanding regarding the 2nd Amendment wackos: As wrong as they are about oh so many topics, I don’t think they’re fundamentally wrong in understanding the 2nd as an intended bulwark against tyranny (albeit, through a “well regulated militia”).
Now, their practical understanding of the consequences has a few holes. The Founders painstakingly set up the institutions of government, including making the President commander-in-chief of the military, and yet they intended to give moral authority to any self-styled patriot with an axe to grind to take up arms against those very institutions? That doesn’t make a lick of sense.
I’m sick of seeing a bunch of entitled ass hats video taping cops and giving them a hard time. Is this any different from the losers walking around with AR15s and video taping themselves?
Cops are people too and what this one said was stupid and moronic, but he was right … he’s there to protect people. If some wanker walks in giving a bunch of attitude and bitching about his rights, but won’t identify himself or act reasonably, then he deserves to get kicked out of the building and he can take it up with an attorney and deal with it legally.
