Goddamn - I don’t know who I feel worse for - the people of the Caribbean or the people of Mexico.

I feel just awful for all of them.

It’s all heartbreaking. Almost enough to make one start to feel a bit superstitious… like the old butter adds and not fooling (with) Mother Nature.

No kidding. I’ve said more than once lately that it’s a good thing I’m an atheist or I might start getting weird ideas.

Somehow I bet the “religious” knuckle draggers that usually make pronouncements such as this is God’s punishment for (insert culture war issue of the day), will remain silent - even in their own heads on this front.

Too many. too fast, and to horrific these back to back natural disasters - and too many possible blames (not culture wars but… Climate Denial, Trump, Trump, Climate Denial) that the cognitive dissonance would be deafening. Guessing they won’t think about it all, nor lose any sleep. Well, Joel probably lost a night or two of sleep, but not because of questioning - but figuring out how to respond after the social media takedown he faced for not providing shelter during Harvey.

jExcept for the Rapture, and today was the day, I agree.

I am really sick and tired of their promises that they are going to be Raptured out of here and nothing happens, too.

I wish to hell Jesus would come get his goddamn followers and get them out of here.

The earth is in fact shifting under the atmospheric and crustal stresses of global warming, melting ice, and more dynamic weather. I think we’ll find these are all just different aspects of the same elephant.

They never quite figure out why the day is always changed, and rescheduled. Modern day phrophets? Ha. Modern day Charletons is more like it.

Plus we have no real idea how far reaching the damage from fracking extends.

We could be literally tearing our planet apart.

That makes sense.

While I was being sarcastic as all get out, re the religious nutjobs who like to make pronouncements in the wake of these events, I actually do wish some would reflect on… science… and start speaking out - as their flocks seem to be so dogmatic and unable? unwilling? to question beyond what is preached at the pulpit and the alter of Fox News.

There is a great wikipedia chart that attempts to chart all of the groups over time. Going to have to find it again. Do the followers of these folks not have access to the internet? on edit - found and added.

It’s hard to believe. It’s just nonstop.

I’m sure they do but I can tell you how that works - they only believe what is sanctioned by their religious leaders and everything is lies perpetrated by Satan.

While I grew up in a red state, it was in a college town - a bright blue bubble. I didn’t hear anecdotes about people thinking that dinosaur bones and artifacts were tricks “planted by satan” until I was well into my thirties. My response was laughter, I couldn’t help it.

I suppose that could be true. The engineer in me thinks fracking probably isn’t causing major crustal change and may even be relieving stresses. But of course I don’t know that for sure.

(Note: it’s not the fracking itself that causes trembors. It’s the deep-well injection method of disposing of wastewater. I have more concern for that migrating into our drinking water.)

I’d rather that be the case and I do hope that is right. I know that’s what their science tells them and if that’s the science that is, then good.

Good to know. I hadn’t heard that.
