Like just about any other state, it has a huge split between rural and urban politics.
But it ranks 22nd in nonpoverty, with MS and NM at the bottom, ranking 49th and 50th respectively among the states. Thank you, MS!?
NM got rid of its GOP Congresscritter from its southeast (bordering TX and including part of the Permian basin) last year.

This is true. I’m in Portland and the town just gets bluer and bluer. Collins will be in the fight of her life if Gideon can get out there and campaign hard, unlike many of the Dems who have run for statewide office here in the recent past.
I think she wants it bad enough to do what it takes. She will have to fend of Betsy Sweet (would love to see Sweet in a different position) in the primaries, but I think she has enough of a grasp on the party apparatus to make that happen. Plus the fact that she’s a great candidate doesn’t hurt.
Add to that the $3 million money bomb about to go off in Suzie’s face and it will be tough for Collins in the GE.
Sure, the rural parts of the state have a long way to go, but Golden did pull it out in ME-2 thanks to Ranked Choice Voting. RCV will be in effect again for the Senatorial race in Nov 2020, so that will be interesting as well.

On Golden I was going by the pure first past the post PV where he was behind slightly before RCV got him over the hump. In this race, I think Collins would also lose ground on RCV in a presidential year. Gideon looks like a great candidate. Perfect matchup against Collins. Accomplished, younger, better looking, energetic, has a good sense of the state, and doesn’t have so many weird conflicts to explain. I think the SNL portrayal of Collins is something I’d go viral with among all Mainers.

Is there actually a place in the Northeast that you could turn off voters by comparing the candidate with AOC… Think Collins made a strategic error right out of the gate.

I’ve spent decades visiting Maine, with a now sold family summer house in Sargentville, the old ferry town for Deer Isle. Just noticed that Weinberger died in Bangor in 2006. We’ll be in Brooksville for a week in Sept.
Now if the Dems can avoid having one of them run as an Independent idiot, Collins may be toast. We can hope. But RCV might ensure this!

I can’t decide if RCV would be a plus for the Democratic primary. It certainly is much more fair… we’d end up with Biden for sure at the top or bottom of the ticket.

No. This is a fairly rural area, away from the fancy stuff in Southern Maine.
Stonington at the tip of Deer Isle is a major fishing village.
Lobster and crab territory.
Portland is more likely to have what you’re looking for. I’m not into Cantonese but 15 years ago they had a decent Indian restaurant. Two years ago, the Indian restaurant in Portsmouth, NH was good. And the Indian place in Falmouth, MA is outstanding.
Out here in the west, Chinese restaurants are much superior to what I’ve found in the east. It’s the Pacific rim that is responsible, I think. If you want great Cantonese, head west young man.

I looked more at Collins. She’s the most liberal GOP Senator and is ranked more liberal than 4 Dem Senators.
But she is still a GOPer and is not our friend.
