Discussion: #NeverTrump Is Back! New Calls To Steal Nomination From Trump At Convention

NeverTrump Is Back!

Yes the hashtag is back!!!11!!one!!! Now we’ll hear from more “conservatives” that have no power or influence braying that Trump has to be stopped!

Want to stop him? Vote for Hillary. It’s so simple even a cave man could do it! (Meaning no insult to Ugg.)

irony

they were so worried about getting the fix in to limit Democratic voters that they forgot to fix it so that they actually got the results they wanted from Republican voters…

Technically he might be correct – the rules are whatever the rules committee and the chair say they are, and it’s almost by definition the kind of political question no court would handle. Heck, Paul Ryan could simply refuse to recognize anyone attempting to place officially nominate Trump, or to hear seconds.

But for a party that’s been working the Long Con for 50 years, they really haven’t thought through what might happen next. (Or maybe they have, which is why so many establishment republicans have discovered previous engagements that prevent them from attending.)

They are well and truly caught in the trap. Its funny to continue to watch so many trying to spin the unspinnable…“I condemn Trump’s words and actions utterly…but we need him to be our nominee”.

And he is their nominee, there is no path out of that, that I can see…because they still have the basic problem they have had all campaign season…If not Trump, Who? And if they can’t resolve that basic question in over a year, they certainly aren’t to resolve it in 4 days amidst riots and chaos that will surely come if they change up the rules and deny him the nomination.

Trump’s politics and character make him a far better standard bearer for the Democrats.

WTF??? Jesus, these people are idiots – and they think we’re all as stupid as they are!!

Yeah, except cavemen are notoriously bad at procuring appropriate identification documentation and so might be turned away from their polling places. The GOP bites itself on the ass…

Well, there are only about 10 Republicans who think they are the “obvious” choice to replace Trump if #NeverTrump succeeds. Can we have a decision by MMA?

I think they ( the nevertrumpers) are doing this the hard way. Wouldn’t it be easier to get their VP candidate on the ticket, let Trump finance the whole campaign, get elected, and then impeach Trump, and have their VP become prez? As frosting on the cake, they would have bragging rights for screwing the guy who screws everybody else.

and with what currency will Trump “finance” the campaign----free golf lessons?

A) Nobody wants to be on the ticket with Trump. This is actually becoming a very real problem that the media isn’t talking about. But we have an unheard of number of GOP politicians who have publicly said they have absolutely no interest in being his running mate. That just doesn’t happen…if people don’t want to be VP, they let it be known through quiet back channels. At this point is no longer “who will Trump choose as his running mate?”, its “Who is willing to be on the same ticket?”…Trump’s choice in the matter is a moot point.

B) Trump can’t/won’t finance the whole campaign. He probably doesn’t have the money, but regardless of that, he has refused to do so and is instead putting the onus on the RNC to finance his campaign AND build up his infrastructure. Which as an organization, they simply are not equipped to do that. And the fund raising efforts are dismal right now. At this point, Romney was well on his way to $1 billion…Trump will be struggling to reach $300 million by convention time.

C) If your strategy is, and its already being floated…again publicly,by no less than McConnell, at least twice…that your Presidential nominee is going to be impeached soon upon taking office, whoever the VP is, is a moot point. Because you WILL lose the election. The American people may be slow on the uptake sometimes, but they are not going to vote for a guy whose own party is publicly saying will be impeached.

But he is filthy rich, right?
I am wondering exactly how he is going to finance the election. Yesterday Trump said he didn’t think he needed to spend so much because he can get free air time when he wants it. Was that because the money isn’t coming in? I suspect Priebus discussed fundraising for the RNC with Trump and Trump wrinkled his nose on that too. I also suspect that the RNC may want to use whatever cash is coming in to save House/Senate seats. It will be interesting to see if Trump can get campaign donations coming in, and super PAC money.

Screw you, we’re the Republican elite - the rules are whatever we want them to be whenever we want them to be.

That’s how we overturned Obamacare, and impeached Obama, and put Hillary in prison, and . . .

Trump’s total lack of understanding how these things are done–and his total lack of giving a shit–may be the best chances we’ve ever had for the official Republican Party as we know it to bankrupt itself. LOL big-time.

they are so, so fucked. support an obvious megalomaniac or dump the guy with the most votes. my advice to republicans is to say: “i disavow donald trump and will work in the future to make my party functional again. tea’s be damned.”

By the time this is over, The Donny’ may have a hard time getting even David Duke to run with him. Perhaps with a makeover…hmmmmm!

Of course, Chrispy’ Christie would, I’m sure, gladly volunteer. There’s no depth to which he wouldn’t sink in his fawning over Trump.

My plan was said as a joke. But Trump does seem like pretty impeachable material, even with a GOP majority in Congress. So Trump’s VP choice is likely to take that into consideration. It may be difficult to find someone more odious than he is, but Ted Cruz does have some potential there. And he would bring in votes from the never trumpers.

Resorting to the memory of my immediate post-college years (the late 70’s) I have come up with the perfect Write-In Candidate for Scott Walker and all those GOP hand wringers who will not call Trump a racist and “could never vote for Hillary Clinton.”

Sal A. Mander was The Aspen Times’ cartoonist Chris Cassat’s character, who he first ran for Mayor of Aspen (kicked off the ticket), then in the 1978 election for Governor of Colorado (came in 5th place in a 6 man race), and in 1980 was the people’s Write-In candidate against unopposed incumbent Aspen District Attorney, Chuck Leidner. The campaign included a ready made slogan for the NeverTrumpers, “It’s your choice: The Lizard or The Snake.” Leidner won, but promptly resigned.

It also spawned a slogan for the modern GOP: If we cannot gerrymander, let us salamander . Aspen Times Chris Cassat Obituary

I doubt the GOP has the sense of humor. Or the Cojones. But can you imagine Trump’s reaction?
