Discussion: Netanyahu Pulls Off Stunning Victory

Discussion for article #234423

Bibi has shown himself to be a racist who promised to keep the Palestinians in Bantustans (or as he puts it, Hamastans) in perpetuity. He has also serially lied to my country and attempted to interfere in our politics. Enough is enough. We need to treat Israel like we eventually did South Africa, with embargoes and sanctions, until such time as they stop their oppression of the Palestinians. Whether that means the Palestinians have a viable state, or they declare a one-state solution where all citizens have equal rights, is up the parties involved, but I am sick of my country funding this Apartheid regime that is working against the interests, and whatever values we have left, of my country

How can 3 million people be so dumb?

Fear is a great motivator. Look at what an incompetent like W. was able to get away with during his time in office. And say what you want about Netanyahu, he is no incompetent. The Israelis have the right to choose their leaders, and we must respect their decision. Now, I’d like to see Netanyahu give us the same courtesy.

How can we support a nation that keeps 2.5 million people in the apartheid West Bank and another 1.5 million in the concentration camp of Gaza?

Very sad, the place needs real change is there is ever going to peace.Netanyahu represents more of the same, and people will continue to suffer. Things will probably even get worse now.

Apartheid? The West Bank and Gaza are not under the control of Israel but of the Palestinian Authority and Hamas, so how is it like South Africa? Palestinian citizens that live in Israel can vote and participate in the democratic process, their party actually will have the third most seats(14) in the next government. In South Africa, the majority(blacks) were being ruled by the minority(whites) because they had no rights or ability to participate in the political process.

To compare Israel to South Africa Apartheid is just liberal progressive BS propaganda in order to turn the American people against Israel. Well not Israel, just those in Israel who actually oppose their people being driven into the sea by the Arab nations that surrounded them who would exterminate them, including Jordan, if they were able to.

This is a huge disappointment after the apparent surge of the Zionist Union. Unfortunately for Israel, Netanyahu’s positions will result in increased international support for BDS. And I fear for the safety of Jews in Europe, having just finished Jeffrey Goldberg’s recent article: “Is it Time for the Jews to Leave Europe,” in the Atlantic.

Whatevs.

It won’t change until the Arab world first acknowledges Israel’s right to exist, which they won’t.

Wow. Simply, wow.

Just in case anyone has a doubt, he’s given us a preview of how the people who own the GOP will be running the 2016 campaign here. This is what it’s going to look like. And over here, they’ll be aided by their own media which, I expect, will start dialing up the Rightwing Feargasmatron to 11 long about, oh, May or so and our ever-vigilant worldly-wise super-savvy MSM will be playing right along.

What is so wow about that? The Palestinians are in the situation they are because of the actions of their chosen leadership and their Arab brothers.

So there will not be a two-state solution. The Israeli electorate has voted for a non-democratic future, a religious state that will require a limited franchise, without those pesky Arab voters. I am so sad to see the dream of Israel come to this.

The same way that 65,915,796 were in 2012.

“I am proud of the people of Israel, who in the moment of truth knew how to distinguish between what is important and what is peripheral, and to insist on what is important.”

When a political leader bases pride for his people upon whether they vote for him, it is not a good situation, especially in a democracy.

The Palestinians are in the position they are in because of complete Israeli domination of their lives. Good grief, Israel has even determined what spices were allowed entry into Gaza.

Its laughable to say Palestinians control anything when they can’t even hold elections for local decisions.

@justamarine - if you actually were a Marine (and not some low-level species of marine life), you took one too many blows to the head. Baby’s re-election has given the world another 10 years, at least, of weenie-wagging and posturing. There’s no simple solution, but if there was this would be 180 degrees opposite.

History has shown again and again that FEAR, HATE, and BIGOTRY wins elections in Theocratic Countries (like Israel.)
Expect BiBi to spend the next year “ethnic cleansing” the parliament to solidify his control. He will also now HAVE to “pay back” the lunatic religious right for their support, to the detriment of the entire country of Israel.
I would not be surprised one bit to see a bill removing the right to vote from Arab Israelis as one of the first acts of the new government he creates.
NOTE: The Republicans are planning on “deploying” the Christian Right here in the USA in the exact same manner as BiBi did the Ultra-Orthodox parties in this election. Expect the same pandering, appeals to outright racism, bigotry, and religious hatred in 2016.
