Discussion: Nebraska Inmate Loses Lawsuit To Worship Flying Spaghetti Monster

FSMism is as legitimate as any other religion. Just because your deity is tasty does not make it any less legitimate.

ā€œFSMismā€ is not a religion as outlined by federal law

Sounds suspiciously like government establishment of religion to me. Who is the government to decide what is or is not a religion? Seriously.

FSMism was satirical and required no accommodation.

It could be reasonably argued that such a definition could be applied to any so-called religion. After all, The Night Before Christmas, the Talmud, the Bible, the Quran et al. are all equally believable.

This is actually a serious argument.
The shame of this is the judge certainly knew this wouldn’t be likely to go to appeal so I suspect ruled with his ā€˜faith’ instead of the actual constitution. One more example of how the system tilts in favor of money (for lawyers, in this case).

It’s sometimes quite stunning to see the difference it makes when a judge KNOWS they will be sued for their decision at the appellate level…but that takes money!
