God Democrats SUCK. It been more than four months and are we any closer to getting his tax returns?
" fearing that doing so could jeopardize a looming court battle with the Treasury Department "
Be nice to hear the how and why versus a cover statement. Otherwise, this looks weak, weak, weak and is making me wonder a lot about Neal. I mean more so.
But Bloomberg reports that Neal won’t ask the Empire State for Trump’s returns under the law, fearing that doing so could jeopardize a looming court battle with the Treasury Department over the President’s tax records. Neal has asked IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin to provide him with the returns, pursuant to a law that mandates the Treasury to “furnish” certain federal lawmakers with the returns of any filer upon request.
Not sure about this, but the subpoena by itself should be enough. Next thing you know, because it’s a new law, the Trumpers would challenge the constitutionality of it all the way to SCOTUS. Not so sure the returns would be released while it worked its way through the courts.
However, that the subpoena has been nose-thumbed by Mnuchin, et al, that’s the real issue here - where are the teeth in the subpoena that has already been ignored flagrantly?
Good lord. What a clown show. Apologies to clowns.
Before we set our hair on fire here in the Comments section, let’s consider whether we really want the Democrats to be as impulsive and dogmatic as the current crop of Republicans.
Goodness gracious - you don’t expect us to get down and dirty do you? I mean, we might loose the damn game but at least our uniforms will be spotless.
And, TPM headline writer, please stop trying to incite riot with the hyperbolic headlines. This is tiresome galore.
When will Democratic voters get through their heads that Dem leadership is scared to death of appearing partisan or “mean”. Pelosi won’t impeach. Neal won’t get the returns. What a bunch of spineless twerps. While Rome burns, McConnell will confirm at least one more SCOTUS Justice, but the Dems will point to their “niceness” and say they’re better than the GOP. Trump will have gotten 3 justices on the high court, tax cuts for billionaires, destroyed the environment, ripped babies from their parents at the border, deported hard-working contributors to our economy, violated the Emoluments Clause, destroyed NATO, empowered Putin on the world stage…but at least Democrats won’t have appeared unseemly or partisan.
Yep. He has gone Mueller on us.
Democrats do not want to impeach, though if they did, it would get them the documents and witnesses they say they want. Also, it would expedite the court battles they claim to want to have.
Democrats barely seem to want to investigate.
They just want to drag their orange pinata to election day and take their chances.
No liberal or progressive won a damn thing in November.
There will be 4 more years of the human stain.
The cover story, the photo of Neal…The way this could have been presented could have been from a position of strength (e.g. “We are confident our measures to get the returns are sufficient but we will do what’s necessary to get the data on Trump as soon as we can”)
I’m not a speechwriter but there are better ways than I can say this (that’s why politicians have writers).
The point is…here is the reaction we have…and all the more reason for an Impeachment Inquiry.
It’s spineless Democrats like Neal that reveals why we can’t have good things. He is such a weakling.
Claim jurisdiction and make Trump fight you in court.
Pyrophoricity is a well know property of TPM comment threads.
Well, Mueller was always a Republican. I don’t quite know why people forgot that.
He may not be a Trumpist, but he’s not going to go out of his way to oppose the entire party, either.
Honestly, no.
Oh FFS. What is the matter with you people? Gun to a gun fight. Ok?
He choose to obfuscate and babble and serve word salad instead of coming up straight “The president commited obstruction” and it was not over BJs either.
Not sure what Neal’s game here is. Perhaps the committee’s chief legal counsel has recommended against it or Pelosi has told him to wait. I don’t see Neal making this decision in a vacuum.
