“It is the ‘straight’ perverts within the community that concern me, people who might well take advantage of our students, straight or GLBT, in and out of school, if the ‘experiment’ initiated by Charlotte should spread, as it well might if the state loses its legal challenge.”
A good point! And I certainly don’t see any problem with our mature and responsible high school students toting pepper spray as they go about their school day. The possibility for misuse is zero.
if the ‘experiment’ initiated by Charlotte should spread, as it well might if the state loses its legal challenge."
“And most of the rest of the country”… he forgot to add that Charlotte was joining most of the rest of the country in the “experiment”, so he should have a good enough sample size. And it’s too late, it’s already spread.
Chuck Hughes, a member of the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education, told
TPM on Wednesday that his comments were aimed at “the ‘straight’
perverts within the community,” not at LGBT students.
And in the next second, he burst out laughing. When he caught he breath, he said, “Just kiddin’! Of course it’s about them homosecual cross dressing whatevers pervertin’ and being near our scools! Hell, I’d run 'em all outa town ifn I could! Of maybes we could put 'em all in a special scool like them there retards go do!”
Damn, we can’t go hatin’ on the blah no more, all we gots left is them there homosecuals!
If the vote to allow pepper spray is aimed at “straight perverts”, why hasn’t anyone thought it necessary prior to now?
It’s really getting entirely too damned difficult to be a straight pervert these days. Perversity isn’t illegal last I checked, what the hell is going in? Miss Kitty already cut back the timer to 30 minutes in fear of arrest, I’m not sure moving it to 15 is going to get the job done.
Someone got yelled at by his wife. I’m guessing because he has a gay/transgender child. It’s really the only reason the teabaggers reconsider their social views.
“Nor did I suggest that GLBT students were problematic,”
Sounds like it’s just “problematic” in Hughes’ mind and large pockets of NC. If only all boys and girls liked those of the opposite sex and were good with their God-given genitalia, none of this would be a problem to reconcile with what the Bible says.
Sounds like it’s the Bible that is problematic and the religious beliefs men create.
That or their boyfriend bitched them out.
Because they think there were all these “straight perverts” sitting around outside women’s bathrooms bent on rape who were afraid to just go inside until they could do so under cover of their pretend sexual identity issue… No not really. Hughes and his like minded “pervert minders” we’re just looking for some plausible rationale to deny LGBT rights on account of the Bible.
"I never intended to slur, disrespect or deprive the GLBT [sic] students of the rights to which they are entitled.
Nor do I have any problem with G-BLTs. I think they are excellent sandwiches, though I could do without the guacamole.
What’s that…it’s LGBT…um, never mind. I really don’t know what I’m talking about.

I am always willing to give anyone a second chance and take them at their word. However, Mr. Hughes, I strongly suggest you reconsider your belief that Charlotte’s law is an “experiment.” The City of Charlotte considered this ordinance for years before finalizing it – they obviously felt it was needed in their city. Nobody is “forcing” anyone to do anything. On the other hand, the City of Charlotte is protecting the right of transgendered people to use restrooms without fear of the type of harassment many of them have been subjected to for a long while now – and I see nothing wrong with ending the harassment. There are already laws against perverted acts in restrooms, and you know this. Please, sir, educate yourself on this issue. Meet with some transgendered folks, your local LGBTQ rights groups – you may be surprised at what you hear. Once you meet people, face to face, get to know them a little, it’s tough to not consider them in the real, in the here and now instead of some unknown scary image.
LOL. As a gay man, when I started hearing my friends using the term ‘LGBTQ,’ I just couldn’t get it out without mangling it AND thinking to myself, “Man, a BLT on sourdough would be sooo good right about now.”
Every day it becomes clearer and clearer that yes, this is absolutely the party of Trump.
Ya say ya want a devolution, oh, yeah.
Aww, how cute. He’s just concerned about some random, unseen “pervert” who manages to sneak into any high school, past the metal detectors and the on-site police officers, past the teachers and the hall monitors, just so they can lurk in the girl’s bathrooms and “pervert” on them.
Yeah, totally plausible explanation. Not.
Adding that 5th letter just confused me no end speech wise.
Many people leave off the ‘Q.’ Back in the late '80s, when some of the leaders of the regional rights groups were rightly pushing for a more national effort, they wanted as much unity as possible. The ‘Q’ stands for ‘Questioning,’ those who might still be questioning who they are, what they like, etc., but wish to be part of the movement. Others pushed for just calling us all ‘Queers,’ since none of us really fit in what was considered “mainstream society.” I had just turned 20 and had just came out to my family and a few friends. (I knew I was different as far back as 5 or 6 years of age when I first saw a porn magazine my father had in a collection. Fortunately for me, it had women and men. My eyes kept looking at the men.) I didn’t know until around 7 or 8 what ‘gay’ meant. Calling myself ‘queer’ was a stretch and the mouthful ‘LGBTQ’ always came out like I had marbles in my mouth. I don’t think I’ve heard anyone use the ‘Q’ in years – but it comes as out of habit for me. (Smiles) – We’ve really come a long way since the Reagan years, thank whatever god is out there (if any).
