Discussion: NC Republicans Fail To Overturn Guv's Veto Of Anti-Abortion Bill

Indeed.

The ground is slowly but surely shifting in the Texas state legislature as well, as borne out by this Texas Tribune article they tweeted out last night:

If Dems win the Senate race and/or the EVs from NC, Cooper’s governance will be a big reason why. I think he has made the party more appealing for indie voters.

It isn’t a conservative value, it’s a racist tactic. In the early 1900’s when Jim Crow, lynching, and Confederate statues were “big” and they realized white women weren’t having enough babies. Wrap in religion and …

We need to stop using their wording of “Pro Life” which they selected because they didn’t like “Anti Abortion”. We need to refer to it as “Pro Forced Birth” to remind folks what it’s really about. It’s not about life because they don’t care after it’s born (i.e. government hand-outs).

Cooper became governor because of the bathroom bill, which the previous governor thought was so great but which led to North Carolina losing a lot of business. There are indeed sensible people in NC.

Huh, so the NC Democratic governor found a way to veto an anti-choice bill, while the one in LA couldn’t.

Those children are often results of rape and incest often borne by poor and minority women. As Senator Warren has pointed out, women of means can find abortion providers. Others may not.

100% agree. Abortion is all GOTV for the GOP. The worst thing that could happen to the party would be for Roe v Wade to get overturned.

That’s been my estimation of the party’s attitude towards Roe for decades. Thing is, now a SCOTUS overturn is in sight, thanks to states’ gov’ts who’ve decided to go for the gold and damn the consequences out of fear of their local voters, and I think it probably has the nat’l party quaking in their boots.

Careful what you wish for, assholes.

As to this particular bill? Didn’t know you could make red meat from whole cloth.

But I think they’ve lost the thread down in the CSA Original 7 states.

Abortion is also going to be GOTV for Democratic women. They came out in 2018 for fear of trumPP not being reined in, they’ll do it again. I dislike the phrase “existential threat”, but what the Rs are doing is exactly that.

It is Mandatory Motherhood. Yet we never hear talk of Mandatory Fatherhood. You know like taking fatherhood responsibility for the child for the rest of your life. IMHO the abortion debate is all about controlling women and gender equality.
