Discussion: NC Legislature Passes Compromise Bill That Rolls Back Some Provisions In HB2

The compromise bill would repeal HB2, which prohibited local governments from passing non-discrimination ordinances to protect LGBT people and barred transgender individuals from using the bathroom that corresponds to their gender identity.

But the bill bans local non-discrimination ordinances that go beyond federal law, which does not explicitly protect LGBT people, and it leaves the state with authority over multi-occupancy public restrooms.

What’s the definition of a zombie again?

Remember, states rights are sacrosanct … except when they’re not.

Some compromise – discrimination still in place; local non-discrimination ordinances banned if they include LGBT people; and trans people still under threat for using public facilities.

Heck of a job NC Democrats.

I hope the Governor vetoes…it’s time to know, once and for all, if Republicans in North Carolina love their college basketball more than they hate their gays.

Besides, this bill doesn’t go far enough, imo.

He’s the one that “negotiated” and pushed this deal.

He did - in an attempt to please everyone and bring the $$ back to NC rather than standing up for principle. Is it possible he will see all of the negative public reaction to this “compromise” and veto it? (probably not)

There are 49 other states corporations can do business in. Why would they continue to do it in North Carolina if the state so clearly wants to have it ‘their’ way and continue to discriminate?

According to the ACLU- your headline is misleading. The ‘Compromise Bill’ keeps all the worst aspects of this discriminatory law.

This is a terrible bill, make no mistake. Cooper, and a fair number of NC Dems in the legislature, have sold out a significant segment of the base.

They will have a lot of work to do to rebuild that trust before the next election.

This thing cost them about $3 billion and NC STILL couldn’t bring themselves to get rid of it.

Fuck you, Roy Cooper. You could have fought this worthless piece of shit tooth and nail but instead you bent over backwards so far to please these fucking bigots that you could kiss your own ass. You had the Dems, the NCAA, the ACLU, gay rights groups, and all the corporate interests to back you up, and you pussied out. I expected those despicable GOP jagoffs to support this legislative atrocity, but not you. You’re worse then they are. Yeah, FUCK YOU!
