What could they be considering?
- Outlawing the Democratic Party.
- Nullifying the recent election for governor. (Problem–wouldn’t that also negate the presidential result?)
- Secession.
- In line with the prior, voting to ask Putin to annex the state to Russia.
My guess is some smart-ass NC lawyers think they’ve finally figured out a way to make being black illegal.
Giant Red Flag-Republicans, the party of zero ethics, operating in secrecy.
Uh oh, it just may be a move to expel Harry Potter from Hogwarts…for sure wizardry’s involved.
Yeah, but at least they’re openly being secretive.
More destruction of democratic norms. When Republicans win, America loses.
We lied, we are packing the State Supreme Court with Republican Partisan judges.
Ooh, ooh…4, number 4, can I say 4?
A few Russian-made, shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles sure would add spice to local politics…
Motto of the NC GOP: Ram It Through
“I do not expect to see the court packing that people are talking about,”
I will keep my eyes closed and not read the legislation or any news reports about court packing. GOP truthiness exposed.
My guess is, it will be something toilet oriented.
I understand they’re about to designate that long-awaited Official State Gender.
What are they doing? Possibilities include
- Court packing
- More voter suppression
- More restrictions on reproductive choice
- Religious freedom!
- Prohibiting cities from taking actions on LGBTQ civil rights, minimum wage, parental/sick leave, etc.
- Something that no one in their right mind would consider
Perhaps getting fitted with Official NC Legislative Klan robes.
Hoods by Ivanka!
It just never looks like you’re forthrightly doing the people’s will when you have special mystery sessions that way. Optics and all. In 2005 the Pennsylvania legislature voted itself a pay raise at 2 in the morning. It was not received well and eventually a good number of heads rolled.
Short list based on rumors with ties to the legislature:
- court packing (of course)
- reclassifying the number of state employees appointed from ~1500 to ~300 (in 2012 to honor McCrory they had increased it to ~1500 from ~300
- making Cooper’s state cabinet level appointments subject to approval by the (gerrymandered) legislative house (new fun rumor!)
Bills introduced by a Dem yesterday (outgoing minority leader I think) that are unlikely to see a vote:
- extend early voting hours
- non-partisan redistricting plan (with support from an ex-Republican Gov and business)
I wonder what we’ll see …
