Discussion: NC Governor Links Fate Of Anti-LGBT Law To Charlotte Pro-LGBT Ordinance

Nothing seems more statesman-like than ceding your authority to opponents.

ā€œIf the Charlotte City Council totally repeals the ordinance and then we can confirm there is support to repeal among the majority of state lawmakers in the House and Senate, the governor will call a special session,ā€ Ellis said.

Well there is their out, even if Charlotte repealed their law the simple and guaranteed answer will be that there is not majority support for repeal in both the House and Senate. Does not even come close to the usual smell test of ā€˜if you do this, we will do thatā€™.

So another example of ā€œtake back our countryā€ or ā€œmake America great againā€ by going back to the good old days and ways whereby discrimination is okay. Weā€™ll drop our law if you drop your silly protection of these misfits of society is what they are saying. I hope they bleed to death (in a business sense) unless this law is overturned completely. Go Blue North Carolina, and I donā€™t mean State or Duke, I mean Dems.

The law superseded Charlotteā€™s ordinance and prohibited other North Carolina cities from passing similar rules. It also directed people to use bathrooms in schools and government buildings corresponding to their birth certificate.

If the State law supersedes Charlotteā€™s ordinance, thereā€™s no need for Charlotte to repeal the ordinance. He thinks N. Carolinians are stupid and canā€™t see through his bullshit. Just change the discriminatory law you helped pass. It will then be in sync with what Charlotteā€™s ordinance already stipulates and allows. Itā€™s not that complicatedā€¦

ā€œIf the Charlotte City Council totally repeals the ordinance and then we can confirm there is support to repeal among the majority of state lawmakers in the House and Senate, the governor will call a special session,ā€ Ellis said.

Thatā€™s the most bullshit excuse Iā€™ve ever heardā€¦

For Charlotte to repeal an ordinance so the state can create an over-arching law to encompass the whole state that says the essentially same thing, is ridiculous pretzel logic on its face.

Oh, and he concedes he wonā€™t try to tackle the issue until after January. After you fail to get re-elected, huh? Or wishing against hope that you willā€¦How fucking convenient for you. Trying to bet the odds against losing your election bid, are you McCrory? Donā€™t count on it.

Back in August 58% of N. Carolinians found HB2 very unpopular and hurting the stateā€¦and that was before all the new cancellations. People donā€™t want this law in the state. McCroryā€™s own approval ratings arenā€™t all that great either.

This law, HB2 is an example of the shock doctrine. They used the transgender portion of the law to conceal the other pars of the law they did not want people to see. The state also included a portion of the law that restricts cities from implementing a different minimum wage standard. Only the state capital can set one single minimum wage. Additionally, there is a third part of the law that restricts peoples ability to sue for discrimination. If you are a veteran and are discriminated there is nothing you can do. This extends to all kinds of discrimination for everyone. It is tort reform under the guise of a bathroom bill.

If Charlottte removes civil rights protections, we might remove the law that took away the civil rights protections.

It is the political equivalent of ā€œHeads I win, tails you lose.ā€

Well, from what I gather from the polls, at least 40% of the white population are.

Hey Repubs, why not just let Charlotte secede?

Isnā€™t that your usual M.O.?

Or better yet, why donā€™t you have North Carolina secede from Charlotte? Weā€™ll just import the Berlin Wall.

Or maybe you can realize you screwed up and let this issue go?

The Michigan State Legislature (now dominated by Republicans in the House and Senate) pull that shit all the time. Multiple layer omnibus style legislation, mostly attached to must-pass bills related to government funding, that canā€™t be changed by referenda by voters without a change in our State Constitution, get all kinds of things slipped in that get overlooked and underreported by the press. All those little poison pills stuffed in, make what theyā€™re doing here a sham. But it does expose the GOPā€™s hidden agenda when it finally comes to light. Trouble is, its too late to do anything about it.

Its time to vote these assholes out all around the country that subvert the will of the people.

I just hope voter suppression tactics by McCrory and his supporters continues to be under the klieg lights this election, to prevent him from trying to manipulate the electorate as theyā€™ve tried to do in the past.

There is no win in this for McCrory, only less damage and less loss.

He and his court of homophobes are attempting to stem the tide and their weapon of choice is backfiring and backhanding them as they use it against others.

Whatevs, the whole idea of discrimination has been a loser for well over 50 years and this is just the next generation of it.

Non-Christian, black gays have got to be the nightmare of all nightmares to the god-fearing, whites only crowd.

Charlotte should respond that they will be more than happy to repeal their law after the state repeals the entirety of HB2, and in its place enacts the Charlotte LGBT protections statewide, and that in the meantime the governor and legislators are cordially invited to take a flying fuck at a rolling donut.

Please proceed, Governorā€¦

No, the 40% see the consequences of the bullshit and they like the smell.

McCrory keeps blaming Charlotte and the mediaā€¦he wonā€™t take responsibility for his own actions.

So mafioso of the governor. Hopefully the people of NC will have a different legislature coming November.

I was just thinking that. I also want them to say "Governor, your actions have cost NC untold millions in tourism dollars and even more in reputation. Howā€™s that going? Why donā€™t you behave like a decent human for a change instead of trying to trump this into a win?

McCrory is starting to feel the economic impact of his knuckle dragging law.

Charlotteā€™s response should be short and eloquent. Governor - FUCK OFF !!

Does he think that this is a ā€œcompromiseā€ thatā€™s going to get people to vote for him so that he doesnā€™t go down to ignominious defeat in november?
