As the article implies, there’s no way this isn’t struck down by the state supreme court. But it isn’t clear from this article (or from the link, which is simply to the bill’s text) that this bill is even backed by the GOP leadership. I seriously doubt it is.

Next up: legislation preventing any law from taking effect that is signed by a Democratic governor on a day ending in “Y”.

I’m surprised the Republicans didn’t call for no elections to be held in even-numbered years.

I wish that legislators could be subject to some kind of real sanctions for doing such obviously anti-constitutional stuff.

Gosh. This is so FIENDISHLY, DIABOLICALLY CLEVER. Like from some criminal brainiac mastermind. WHO could ever hope to figure out what’s going on?

Pathetic.

"new legislation would, in odd-numbered years, make the chair a board member who is from “the political party with the highest number of registered affiliates,” which are the Democrats…

In even years, when statewide elections are held, the chair would be a board member who is from “political party with the second highest number of registered affiliates,” i.e. the GOP…"

Seriously, we don’t need any more proof that republicans do not support democracy, unless they are in charge. But they keep insisting on giving us more proof anyways.

Why even have elections. I’m very surprised the republicans haven’t tried abolishing the democratic party. Is there no one or agency that has the power to stop this activity?

This is why it was so disappointing that SCOTUS punted on the gerrymandering cases it had this past year. If they had come to a standard for determining how much partisan gerrymandering was unconstitutional then we could get a little closer to representational government in these state legislatures.

PA, where I live, is a great example of how a fair and simple non-partisan map can instantly fix this problem. Like NC, PA has a majority of Democrats who previously had only 5 of 18 Congressional seats. With the new map, it is now 8D and 8R.

Now, if only we can ungerrymander the state legislature.
