I am waiting for the bay where the rowing events are held to catch fire…

NBC’s Olympics Coverage Has Been A Dumpster Fire

Just curious, does TPM have to pay a royalty to Donnie Drumpf for the use of “Dumpster Fire”?

I think Leslie Jones is brilliant, but when NBC has to recruit staff while the Olympics are on-going, they may have a slight problem.

I have a small bit of sympathy for NBC. They paid a metric shit-ton of money for the broadcast rights, and they have to make it back.

That said… ugh. Turning this into a reality show instead of just airing the events really sucks.

I prefer to watch / listen to coverage from non-US sources.

We go thru this EVERY FOUR YEARS! I’m more interested in the sports, and less about the journey and personal stories. I hate NBC and I cannot stand Bob Costas. I wish more than one network would cover the Olympics so we could pick the best channels and the best programming instead of being held hostage by NBC

We’ve been thankful to live in a part of the country that has the CBC coverage of the Olympics. More athletes, less talking airheads.

"More women watch the Games than men, and for the women, they’re less
interested in the result and more interested in the journey. It’s sort
of like the ultimate reality show and mini-series wrapped into one.

Can I give you a hearty fuck off, for all female fans of the Olympics? Why yes, I think I can.

I believe that The Donald can only collect for “Drumpfster Fire”…

+1 for that alone.

Wow. These “controversies” boil down to people not paying attention, and then jumping to umbrage as their first reaction.

And TMP’s headline–“dumpster fire”? Please, that is the registered trademark of the Trump campaign.

“More women watch the Games than men, and for the women, they’re less interested in the result and more interested in the journey. It’s sort of like the ultimate reality show and mini-series wrapped into one. And to tell the truth, it has been the complaint of a few sports writers. It has not been the complaint of the vast viewing public.”

They just smear some estrogen on the camera lenses and have at it.

I’ve been watching the streamed video with Firefox and adblock. You’ll get a 5-30 second pause where a commercial break would be and then the stream immediately goes back to the coverage. I’ve had it on all day today and haven’t 't seen a single commercial.

Yes, in between Trump coverage.

They were more fun when the participants were naked and people ran until they died.

And WHY are you surprised?
The Olympics are about one thing and one thing only; MONEY (via Nationalistic Spectacle)
It is a cluster-fuck of corruption, under-the-table money transfers, and ADVERTISING CONTROL.
The Olympic Committee makes FIFA look like rank amateurs when it comes to corruption and payola, and once all the proper palms (and other places) have been sufficiently greased the entire thing is turned over to the ADVERTISERS who have final say on EVERYTHING.

NBC wanted the parade of nations to be in English alphabetical order, so that viewers would not miss Team USA because it came out as Estados Unidos. They were rightly told to fuck off.

From the opening ceremony, to including hours of “human interest stories”, to the stupid comments by announcers? Yes, it’s been a dumpster fire, and has been, for many years at this point, which is why I watch less and less of each Olympics.

Also, last night, I actually timed the amount of live coverage from 9:15 to about 9:45. 30 minutes of clock time amounted to 11 minutes of actual coverage.

On second thought, “dumpster fire” doesn’t really capture the catastrophe that is NBC coverage.
