Discussion: NBC/WSJ Poll: Trump Losing Ground In South Carolina

I don’t know, South Carolina seems like the kind of place where there could be a strong contingent of military folk that under normal circumstances would vote for Bush but are shopping for a different horse because theirs has pulled up so very lame. I could see them on the fence for Trump and turning to Rubio as their safe choice.

In response to Josh Marshall’s ‘huge eyebrows’ observation…tweetySue’s probably planning to incorporate them in his hair.

If this poll were to hold true, it would be another nightmare scenario for the GOP: Trump gets to crow over a victory, Cruz gets a bump from the close second-place showing, and Rubio/Bush do juuuuust well enough to keep them both in the race going into Super Tuesday - especially if there is a feeling that the Trump fervor might be waning. Then the convention would probably look like the last scene of Reservoir Dogs.

The party would probably be better served by a solid Trump win, an underperforming Cruz and Jeb/Carson/Kasich dropping out. That way, the narrative would probably shift to a simplified Trump vs Rubio narrative going into March.

Or maybe none of this, since this cycle has been SO FREAKING WEIRD.

“Former reality-television host Donald Trump is…”

Is it really necessary to preface Trump’s name with the words Former reality-television host? We all know who he is.

Here’s Nate Silver’s prediction for SC tomorrow: http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/election-2016/primary-forecast/south-carolina-republican/

Josh’s editor’s blog post today has alarmed me. He says that Cruz would be almost certain to lose, and lose badly, in the general - but that Trump, while he could lose even more badly, could conceivably win.

I’ve been rooting for Trump because he’s funny, he’s cutting the GOP to shreds, and most significantly, because I viscerally hate all the others. I despise Cruz and Rubio so much that I can barely stand to look at pictures of them, while Kasich and Bush take about 15 seconds before the raw hatred kicks in. With Trump, I just laugh and wait for the next part of the monologue. The thought of him actually being president is of course horrifying, but I hadn’t really considered it.

I guess it’s time to start hoping Cruz pulls it out. Ughghghgh … I mean … he’s essentially Joe McCarthy.

[The poll showed support for Trump at 28 percent, still affording him a comfortable lead over second-place contender Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who stood at 23 percent, and third-place contender Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) at 15 percent.]

Well…he could invite Jorge Ramos over.

For a rumble.

Might work, but Goober might confuse Ramos with Crubio. And that might be the POINT…

Yes, he is. And that’s why a lot of people like him.

Go figure.

It’s so hard with billionaires on both sides of the argument… who’s a conservative plebe to support?

I think the fault lines among GOP voters that’s been known for some time are finally coming to a head the way the primaries are playing out, and it’s really fascinating to see how it’s playing out in neat, red, cookie cutter lines between the 3 major factions; the financial class, evangelical wing, and white trash rest.

The financial class overlords are really in jeopardy with their 3 “moderates” all competing for the same votes. Cruz and Carson are at each other’s throats because they largely compete for the same votes, and Trump dominates because he has the white trash demographic locked up all to himself and has enough crossover appeal to get some of the divided voters that would normally side with candidates from the other wings.

The fiscal class really needs to get their shit together and rally around Rubio to have a shot. Problem is the Bush loyalty and his family’s stature means no one can really force him to get out of the race unlike other schleps that were told to pack up because their backers weren’t feeling them anymore.

It needs to get down to a 3 horse race between the 3 wings of the GOP electorate. That’s the battle I’m dying to see who emerges from and how. I think Carson really pisses Cruz off because he sees him as a nuisance and unserious candidate just taking votes away from the religious fundie wing that Cruz feels entitled to himself. But Cruz really needs to consolidate that crowd to make solid gains against Trump because the troll really has no crossover appeal at all. Hence the dirty tricks and frustration directed at Carson, who is like the mosquito sucking away about a quarter of his natural followers that he can’t figure out how to swat.

obessed,

I feel almost exactly the same, except that Trump’s true statement that nobody’s bought him has resonated, to a certain extent, with me.
