Discussion: NBC: Talks Between Trump Lawyers and Mueller Collapse, POTUS Interview Unlikely

I think it is extremely credulous to buy into the idea that Trump was ever going to be interviewed by Mueller. He was just looking for a pretext to officially get out of it.

Put it on Pay-per-View. Dotard would jump on that in a heartbeat…

Shorter version
Trump listens to Faux Takes advice
Still does not realize he is too stupid to face Mueller .
Besides that pleading the 5th in the Grand Jury will be easier
AMIRITE?

Subtext: Mueller now has everything he needs without having to interview the perp.

But this opens trump up to a relentless line of questioning from the press, doesn’t it? Every single day, day after day, they’ll ask “Didn’t you say multiple times you were eager to talk with Mueller? Why don’t you want to go over there and clear things up with him?”

That’s okay- we’ll eventually get to hear Trump* testify in his own words via the Cohen Tapes.

Nixon must be laughing from the great beyond that another republican president would be brought down in the same way.

I would love–LOVE–to be the person to serve the grand jury subpoena on tRump.

“You’ll have to ask my attorney”
…oh wait

Surely it’s possible to start a rumor that Mueller is afraid of meeting Trump face to face? Trump will demolish Mueller’s theories of the case, because there was NO COLLUSION!

Nah, he’ll just say it’s on advice of his lawyers - just like his taxes.

Trump is the classic character who thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room. His massive ego and crippling lack of self-awareness will compel him to swagger into an interview with a guy who’s probably already got all he needs to nail trump’s orange hide to the wall. Mueller will slice and dice trump like a Benihana chef.

The press is reporting this outcome as if it were a surprise. The interview was never going to happen. A child could have forseen this outcome. Did the members of the DC press really believe the Trump bullshit about wanting a meeting, while at the same time threatening to fire Mueller, and in light of all of Donnie’s previous baits and switches. No wonder, we’ve got Trump in the WH.

Could some lawyer person explain how this works? Some court calls on you to testify about something you were involved in and you say “No thank you” or “Written questions only, which obviously my lawyers will write instead of actually myself”?

I thought the only argument was maybe “Sorry, presidents don’t have to do that. We are far too busy watching Fox News and conspiring with attorneys to hush up various affairs and frauds and things, typing up lots of stupid middle school level tweets, oh, and also all those documents and so on. You know, President stuff.”

Oh bull. Trump was NEVER going to be interviewed. He just yammered on so his ‘base’ would think he had nothing to hide and when he declined the interview it was all SOMEONE ELSE’S FAULT. Classic Trumpian move.

The Cohen treasure trove probably made interviewing His Orangeness unnecessary, but easier to catch him in the web of his many lies.

“I was all set to do an interview, and then they firebombed my personal attorney’s office. Now Little Bobby Mueller is BEGGING me to do the interview. Too bad! I’m dealing with a crisis in Saharia.”

This was just like the way Trump frequently stiffed people who did work for him - Trump spews “blah, blah blah” - as time passes by - and as Trump sorts through the potential openings for him to throw a drama queen hissy fit about some faux discrepancy & then self justify reneging on the arrangement. The son-of-a-bitch thinks he can just make up his own set of rules.

My guess is the “Cohen treasure” will more likely open up new cans of worms for Trump to deal with at the NY State level.

White House lawyer Ty Cobb told NBC Thursday that it was “untrue” that the interview will likely not happen.

Well that’s a clear statement.
