Discussion: NBC Takes Down Tweet Calling Oprah Winfrey 'OUR Future President'

Jr’s bitching about media bias on Twitter as family can’t seem to understand the difference between entertainment and politics.

Oprah Winfrey is a highly respected cultural icon, who I agree with on many topics… and who has no business trying to run a country.

Fewer celebrities, more experienced experts and leaders, please.

OMG - the rate at which the media has jumped on the “Oprah for President” bandwagon has me convinced there’s no hope for us at all. They didn’t learn anything from 2016.

Based on what’s breaking in the media today, that difference continues to disappear (not to be interpreted as support for Don Jr. in any way)

What a dumb thing to tweet in the first damn place for a major media company. But then to take it down? Proof they have no idea what to do with this story except make something out of nothing and fill empty space…They’ll either fawn over her and get people on camera to attest to her goodness, or criticize the arrogance in thinking she’s the new hero-worship the country needs, even though they’re the ones building her up for the fall. As soon as some liberals express support for Oprah, the infotainment arm of NBC will quickly pull the old switcheroo and go after those same liberals. Its kinda what they’ve done since…forever. I’ve seen this dumbass movie before. It goes nowhere and for good reason but seems to take up unnecessary time and space when the news could be reporting on far more important stuff about how the GOP is about ready to let gov’t shut down if they don’t get their way on a stupid wall.

I dunno. I could use a new car . . .

God forbid the Dems actually consider Oprah. We’ve had plenty enough of “outsider” billionaires with no experience running government. It’s time to get back to electing competent administrators who understand and believe in government.

I’ll go for that
Some nice dull boring people who are more interested in running the country than how many twitter followers they have.

At least if she were to run (and win), there wouldn’t be any talk of needing adults in the WH to reign her in… and as a business person, she’s never stiffed partners, run up & walked away from huge debts or declared bankruptcy.

There is a certain “Anybody but Trump” air about all this.

( I have no doubt OW is a smart and accomplished woman)

Are you kidding? The woman runs an Empire and started with nothing. She’d actually be a great POTUS. The tough part is how she could divest from such an enormous business empire in order to do so. Other than that, she’d be golden. I doubt she’d do it but I for one would like to see her run. Why not? Couldn’t be any worse than where we are.

She has every skill required for POTUS and then some. The divestiture is the tricky one because it is so big and would she want to give up 4-8 years of freedom and privacy?

If I were her I would not give up the privacy and freedoms, but there is no reason she could not do the job and do it well.

Oprah, love ya, but please use your resources and contacts to help get competent, honest people elected to government, at all levels. That will shut out the GOP.

No more media figures for President, please.

Reagan and trump did this and we know how that worked out.

If you think Orah is just a celebrity you are sorely mistaken.

She is everything Trump preens, pretends and wishes he was.

A truly self-made billionaire who has built numerous thriving and successful companies in the media industry, who is smart, a great communicator and knows how to run various enterprises.

The only question mark I have is what sort of policy positions she has and animates her thinking.

Whoopdy-do and that’s great for her, but the United States of America is not a business.

Oh! Bless her :sparkling_heart:

Yet I fear the zeitgeist of Tribal America, rooted in ancient Athenian folklore…

…Lookout, dear sweet soul.

Jeepers, NBC. Do you have no learning curve?

Once upon a time you took a crude, low-rent trust fund brat from Queens—a guy in hock up to his eyeballs to, among others, it is rumored, the Russian mob—and, with quite a lot of help from your then-employee Jeff Zucker, trimmed and pruned and airbrushed and scripted and Vaseline-lensed the guy, turned him into a Reality TV executive on The Apprentice, then saddled the whole country with the ghastly outcome.

Don’t get me wrong. Oprah is great. She’s no Trump. She’s a patriotic, lovely, gifted, intelligent human being, and one who, moreover, actually knows her country’s history, understands its flaws, and respects its capacity for greatness.

Nevertheless, we don’t need another NBC celebrity in the Oval Office, thank you very much. We’re heading into dangerous waters. We need a quiet, experienced, savvy professional to guide us, not an inspired amateur from your prime time lineup.

Per cnn.com:
"Oprah ‘actively thinking’ about 2020"

This may make me unpopular around here but personally, I have had enough of celebrity presidents.
Oprah would be far more effective from the sidelines

Of course there are differences between being an executive of multiple for profit businesses, and philanthropic organizations (both of which she has proven experience in) but also some relevance in being able to do that to the job as head of the executive branch. To be a competent executive leading multiple enterprises which do translate into heading up a multiple organizational executive position of the POTUS.

But please be dismissive of a highly successful black business’s woman with proven world-class communication skills because “reasons”.
