Hey, some good news for a change. Nice.
The Florida Republican party is apparently full of criminals and racists, as shown by the two at the head of the ticket this election. Hopefully Florida sees through them and sends the Democrats into office, both are hugely important wins for the Democrats to pull out.
It’s just so crazy given the current situation with what is happening and who is running and the environmental damage that is happening in FL that they are only up by such a small amount.
And Politico has an article saying that Nelson is in peril because he is behind in older Hispanic voters. That makes me feel much better about this poll from NBC because it shows that Politico has to focus on a specific demographic to get a horse-race story.
What can we say? Some idiots just love taking afternoon walks in oil-tainted waters or in waterways being choked off by algae blooms caused by runoff and outright dumping. It’s a Republican’s dream, evidently.
Apparently, the overwhelming stench doesn’t bother them because they have their own air to breathe.
Hopeful but never take these polls too seriously… I am going to Florida later this week and will read the Tampa Bay Times. Actually it’s a good paper with the excellent LA Times crossword. But who knows because voting is on going? It’s not worth a headline yet.
It’s a Republican’s dream, evidently.
It’s freedom, I tell you! FREEDOM!!!
Good on Gillum, but conventional wisdom says that an incumbent senator needs to be up by more than 3 by this time in the cycle. And that the results are within the margin of error is what makes me have nightmares about Toad popping up in the Senate.
All comes down to turnout. Democrats and independents are stoked and smelling blood in the water. Republicans on the other hand are rudderless and turning on each other.
POLITICO? I am shocked, shocked, I tell you.
Memo to Donald Trump: Please continue to tweet and talk shit about Puerto Rico, about Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz, who is probably gonna be the next Governor of Puerto Rico, about what a great fucking job you did for Puerto Rico. At least 3X a week until early November. Please. Thank you.
In the 2 polls released today, Nelson is around 50% and Scott around 45%. Gillum has a solid lead.
The key thing to note from the two polls is Nelson’s share of the Latino vote: +21 in Q, +20 on Marist. He’s right around 60% (i.e., Obama numbers).
There has been a lot of stories about how Scott is romping with Latinos and how Latinos are voting GOP at the Congressional level. That’s clearly not true. The GOP is on track to lose 4-8 House seats in this election. They could be at the higher end of that range given the trends in the statewide races.
There has been a lot of stories about how Scott is romping with Latinos
Is that like coddling? Or rough horseplay?
Can I just say it still blows my mind that Rick Scott was able to ever win any high elected office anywhere? He was CEO of the hospital chain Columbia/HCA when the company was found to have committed the largest Medicare fraud in history: $1.7 billion. And in spite of massive Medicare fraud he became governor of Florida.
That poll was of over 50 year old hispanics, paid for by AARP… It was interesting, but mostly says that old cubans are republicans… go figure…
This is a huge deal. I was assuming Gillum would be up slightly more than Nelson, I’ll take the 5 points.
This race all comes down to turn out, and I think Gillum will help, since it is affrican americans who usually fall off, if they can get Boricuas to register and vote for the D’s, we will win both of these races, and hopefully a few house races…
Sadly, stupid voters tend to be the most reliable ones. (I am open to alternative explanations.) I am hoping that we can reverse that trend in the mid-terms.
Should tell us all that’s necessary to know re: the tendencies of FLA voters.
Right-wing $$$$ will be pouring into these 2 races from now 'til 11/6 and it’s a question of whether the two D’s can withstand it.
(with sincere respect for all FLA residents/voters herein)
This poll wasn’t an LV poll. It was an RV poll with an LV subsample. The RV numbers are uniformly better. RV, Nelson is up five points 48-43, and Gillum is up eight points 49-41. Interestingly, the RV numbers are quite consistent with the Q-poll.
And my strong belief is that all LV models have been doo-doo since 2008, while RV numbers have tracked outcomes, but pollsters just can’t face it, presumably because lack of a secret sauce LV model is a brand differientation problem or possibly misguided statistician stubbornness.
I am not surprised by this polling. Neither DeSantis nor Scott has advanced a positive agenda. People are sick of all negative, all the time. People in Florida are looking for a change.
