Discussion: National Security Officials Quietly Prepare Backup Plan If Haspel Fails

Gordon has worked in the CIA for decades, specializing in intelligence technology.
So, they had a person who could probably sail through the confirmation hearings, and someone who just might have been admired and hailed for her competence, but instead nominate someone who is vilified for being a supporter of torture.
Yeah, the Trump Team would do that, wouldn’t they?

I know. But I suspect that Bolton et al. want a pliant person heading the CIA in case the Maladministration wants to tout a false narrative, a la GWB and WMD. Perhaps this time it will be WMD in Iran.

She reportedly considered backing out of the process on Friday due to the likely grueling questioning.

There’s gotta be some juicy stuff that hasn’t been released publicly, or there wouldn’t be all this stress…

because when they asked her and Haspel to kowtow, Gordon didn’t prostrate low enough

Think @judygran is on the right track particularly WRT Bolton: he wants war and Haspel is his kind of flak.

Can you imagine if Hillary had just said “well, I know there are going to be congressional hearings where I’m subjected to endless questioning that impugns my integrity and abilities. I’ll give the job a pass, thanks.”

No doubt Gordon is too independent or qualified for the GOP’s liking.

It never pays to be this administration’s ‘Plan B’.

Just blame it all on Jon Tester. You know you wanna.

Huckabee Sanders is already playing the woman card. Sorry Sarah, women do need to be give more voice and representation in our government and world, but not ones that do bad and illegal shit anymore that men that do bad and illegal shit, like your boss for example.

Gordon is “deep state.” Can’t have that. Haspel is pliable enough she’s already folding.

Has Rand Paul taken another principled stand?

Why not waterboard her and get the answers they want?

I saw that and it makes me ill. Sanders has no problem trashing her gender when women try to speak up for themselves against her boss, or for other causes of fairness and representation. Now, suddenly, she feels the need to align herself with “women’s issues” because the Trump administration can’t afford another nominee withdrawal or messy confirmation hearing.

Well this has nothing to do with caring about women, just trying to keep folks from criticising Donald’s stupid decisions.

They say those confirmation hearings are just torture.

And she knows quite a bit about “grueling questioning.”
