Indeed. The assertion that women can’t tell if they’ve been raped seems to call into question the assertion that they can “shut that thing down” if they get pregnant as a result of rape.
Those nasty Libs always taking away the people’s freedoms, indoctrinating our youth & allowing Women to become more powerful by taking responsibility for themselves. How dare they!
Freedom to rape and not be called-out on it is the RW American way, ain’t it?
Those right-wingers are really set on “brainwashing” men to believe that they are uncontrollable animals, and anything that happens is therefore determined by a woman’s choices, not something they might be responsible for.
First of all, it’s the National Review. That’s really all that needs to be said.
Secondly, most people in the world aren’t as gullible as their target market, so, most people recognize this for the rape apologist fantasy that it is.
Ok, judging from the comments I’d better duck but… That less than 15% of rapes are even reported does not mean that 100% of the rapes that are alleged were actually rape. There really isn’t any inconsistency between saying that rape is underreported and everything should be done to make sure that victims come forward and their assailants are prosecuted on the one hand, and at the same time saying that if there is an alleged rape, the alleged attacker needs to be found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury of his peers before he is hung from the trees. I was listening to a report on NPR the other day about protests against Williams College for allowing an alleged rapist back on campus after suspending him for 3 years - the victim was no longer there. That’s great, and makes perfect sense if he was a rapist; the problem is that there has been no indictment, no prosecution, no trial, no evidence submitted to a jury, and no conviction. Essentially, the mere allegation of a rape is sufficient to destroy someone’s life – and college and university administrators are put in the position of inflicting what, in a real way, is essentially an academic and professional life sentence, without any due process for the alleged assailant, and under pressure from alumni, fundraisers, parents, and students who insist on a zero tolerance policy. Zero tolerance is great, but without actual prosecution and conviction, it is really mob justice. And that doesn’t do women as a whole or rape victims any good.
To emphasize before I start ducking: I’m not arguing “real rape” vs. “not-real rape” or “blame the victim” or “feminazis!!1!” or anything like that. It’s a real problem, and the solution has to be encouraging reporting combined with treating such reports as accusations of a crime and prosecuting them as such.
Also, the tone and “analysis” in A.J. Delgado’s NR piece is garbage.
Now, I’m ducking.
Then we need to “brainwash” harder, because about 70-80% of rapes STILL go unreported.
Asshat comment posing as fact. Women are free still to flirt with other than their husbands, doesn’t mean they want to get raped as a result.
Please, GOP, Please. Listen to this woman and adopt her theory as your party wide position. I so do like to watch your candidates go down in flames. I want to see Mitch McConnell pull this out in a debate against that “strong Kentucky Woman” so I can watch the rest of Kentucky’s women kick his butt all the way down the Capitol steps…
What she is saying is that women are not smart enough to know what “no” means.
I sincerely appreciate your attempt in trying to objectively examine the problem, it’s a complicated issue, and part of the problem are the methods used by defense attorneys of behalf of their accused clients. They must and do advocate forcefully and to be successful must shred the reputation of the accuser. Add to that the mistaken belief that provocative dress or manner must be why it happened.
It might well be that, or more likely an organ in support of climate change response, once Michael Mann gets thru his lawsuit.
Excellent point. Totally right on.
If her “friend” really did this, AJ should testify against her if charges are brought. Funny, we don’t hear about any consequences to the guy in this anecdote…
“I am no scientist”
Shocking.
So, in her world, it would be fine for me to walk up to and “jokingly” fondle her breasts in a “friendly” manner?
Finally, a bigger slut than Sandra Fluke! I knew the GOP would find one.
Just as Ron Christie makes his living telling racists there is no racism, Delgado is making her living telling rapists there’s no such thing as rape. NEXT: NRO features a Jewish Holocaust denier.
The book “Lucky” by Alice Siebold was as good of a book I’ve ever read about dealing with rape. Even in a no grey area rape (sober virgin attacked by a complete stranger in town) the victim was treated as if she was somehow to blame and treated rather harshly by everyone in the system, even by some people that cared about her…like how did he manage to attack her without a weapon?
Not to be outdone, CNN (Faux Lite) will try to poach her from the NR by offering her a spot with their new favorite conservative woman in a new show called “2 Girls, 1 S.E. Cupp.”
How cold blooded are these right wingers? Is there a limit to their depth?
