House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said Wednesday that he is seriously considering imposing fines,
Along with where to have dinner, what tie to wear tomorrow, and does this milk smell sour to you?
Jerry…Jerry…Jerry…they don’t care.
Fines? I would start with 10 to the sixth power.
Meanwhile, Trump’s allies vigorously protect and expand his electoral advantages:
Might as well get something out of this mess. If Mnuchin loves to brag about his wealth so much then surely he can afford a little fine. Oh wait, he’ll whine and cry because having to use even one cent is humiliating for him because like all wannabe tycoons he’s also a boring cheapskate
Yes, play some hard ball. Make them fight the amount imposed (imposed for destroying the America the Founders intended).
Trump could just declare an emergency, seize money from the DoD budget, and make any fined individual whole from those funds.
But do keep a watch out for Mnuchin declaring a Treasury Dept holiday, then showing up on a weekend evening with his ditzball wife trying to run the money presses in the empty building.
I called House Judiciary and you should too.
Trump’s argument today is both weak and audacious. What he’s saying is that Congress has no authority to investigate him and he’s teeing up this argument in the courts to get something in front of SCOTUS while Nadler writes letters.
No. Push through contempt votes on the floor, impose large fines to make some noise and news, and impeach.
Lets go back to the Halcyon days of a few weeks ago…when a panel on Lawrence’s show was happy that Mueller was dissatisfied with Barr’s malfeasance. The mood on the panel (which included David Frum–no optimist he) was light and proactive…not the bunker mood we have today.
That is because Trump has now declared war on Democracy. We cannot let him get away with that. Not only this country but Europe and many other countries (and, indeed, the Planet) will suffer if that happens.
Trump is all bluff on this…let’s move against him quickly.
How about IMPEACHMENT!!!
And then when they refuse to pay the fines?
Nancy Delay STILL has not even scheduled a Contempt vote.
Stop “considering” things and get to it. You should have planned months ago for just what to do when the administration stonewalled and obstructed. The Logic Model should have been ready to implement immediately with the first letter saying they’d like more time to think about whether they’d comply.
Yes, or just keep one’s mouth shut about it for now. We know the leadership is trying to figure out the timing to provide the largest possible Democratic victory in 2000, but this “seriously considering” schtick is not the least bit helpful.
I think they’re gonna give in any day now, Jerry!
(I mean, I support doing all that can be done, in careful and calculated fashion for the coming court battle, but carrying on about hypotheticals just makes you look like you’re losing.)
Whereupon, the House could appropriate $0.00 for the DoD budget. Ad-In, Ms. Pelosi.
