Discussion: Nadler Announces Deal With DOJ On Seeing Mueller's 'Most Important Files'

If the DOJ is caving on this, does it mean they are only playing politics on all of the subpoenas they’re resisting? I’m shocked, just shocked.

Last night on KCDC, a journalist was saying that he didn’t understand why Team Trump went straight to the “defiance” route, rather than the tried and true “we’ll give you some stuff, but you’ll wait and wait and wait for it” route.

Now we know.

Why go the “some stuff” route first, when you can do the defiance route for three months, THEN start on delayed document production?

ETA: any info on the McGahn subpoena?

Or it could be a face saving device for Nadler, who knows that his case against Barr regarding the subpoena is a bad joke…

ETA: I mean, this announcement has about as much content as Trump’s “mexico deal” announcement…

Barr is 1000X more untrustworthy than Trump. Mainly because Trump is an imbecile…and mostly relies on shysters just like Barr.

If Nadler can see the “most important parts,” why can’t he just see ALL the files?

Nadler, however, said in the statement that the committee had agreed “to allow the Department time to demonstrate compliance with this agreement.”

Slow-walking Jerry is still slow-walking.

Dang, I thought contempt and next stop : Barr Impeachment were pretty easy and held little danger for Dems. Not sure why Ds would cave on this. I don’t mean to say this is pussyfooting or slow rolling or gutless. But I thought going after Barr didn’t really have any downside and could possibly cripple him. I was hoping he would end up having to recuse himself on issues he was being held in contempt or being impeached over.

Keep methodically building documented cases of multi-faceted obstruction.

Please proceed…

What evidence is there that the DOJ will act in “good faith”, I mean isn’t that the express reason for the contempt vote in the first place?

We’ll see what Barr delivers. We may get both, more Mueller report and a contempt citation if he tries to pull a fast one. He has until tomorrow to deliver, he better get his big ass moving.

After Rep Collins reviews the material, I would love for him or any Republican to tell us what criminal behavior is okay now.

That way we can all be on a level field as we rush to cheat the system.

I’d say Barr and DOJ are getting mighty nervous…

I don’t know why we are negotiating with terrorists.

Now we will know the most important parts–the ones that are not shown.

Dems cave: same shit, different day? This happens every single time with Democrats. They’re voted into office and…compromise unnecessarily and stupidly…

I fail to see any reason why the Dems would deal with Barr who obviously is not dealing in good faith. How do we know we’ll get the “important files”. What does that even mean? We’re dealing with a manifestly untrustworthy individual here.

For once in your miserable lives Democrats, go for the throat.

DOJ says it will do this. Where’s the evidence that says it won’t?

The Justice Department, after weeks of tense negotiations, has agreed to provide Congress with key evidence collected by Robert S. Mueller III that could shed light on possible obstruction of justice and abuse of power by President Trump, the House Judiciary Committee said on Monday.

For all his supposed intelligence Barr has telegraphed his weakness. Threaten contempt charges and Barr keeps giving up info. Sure, it is not ideal, we wish it could be all at once but this is the best we are going to get. Nadler is playing the only game he can. I wouldn’t put it past Nadler to go ahead and vote on contempt once he gets all he can out of Barr. Jerry Nadler is a tough old bird.
