The Hollywood effect: Making the awards less about advocacy and more about money and entertainment. Corporate America owns the NAACP Annual Diners around the country. Hard to call a person a reactionary when they have a life-time membership in the NAACP and donated to the cause regardless of the actual case history.
what I want to know is what did he ever do to receive this honor. sterling has taken from the black community, but what has he done for it? if his comments are to be considered, nothing. yet, knowing how he felt, sterling was going to accep this honor. egotistical as well.
Why was he receiving it in the first place, NCAAP?
I gather this individual has always been known for being a racist, so my question is, what on earth was NAACP thinking in the first place? They might as well give an award to Cliven Bundy.
A time machine for some. Reality for those of us who lived with it our entire life because of skin color.
It seems the NAACP was caught up short by participating in the long tradition of giving rich people awards for being rich.
āSuperfluousā is a most accurate description for this award if they even considered this man as a viable candidate. I see it was the local LA NAACP. Perhaps the National NAACP should have some oversight in how these local and state chapters utilize certain criteria to determine a deserving award-getter. It makes the entire organization look bad when they donāt vet the candidate, and the NAACP does such good work it would be a shame to have its reputation ruined over an undeserving, horrible award vetting process.
Itās the new racism defense that the right is laying out. Sterling, a billionaire contributed $1000 to Bill Bradley in 1999, and $2000 to John Kerry in 2004, therefore he obviously is a Democrat, ergo democrats are obviously racist.
You know, like the defenses that they lay out for gun violence. Ignore the fact that democrats are the ones trying to bring out common sense regulation, only look at whether the gunman ever voted for a democrat, and then make that the storyā¦
ā¦exactly so,SRfromGR!
Well put! And very sad.
No worries, Fox will step in with rectally derived award for him!

How the hell did it ever come about that he was even considered for a Lifetime Achievement Award in the first place?
I wonder what the highest number of likes for a comment is. Goes to show how many people were wondering the same thing.
Anyway, didnāt someone at NAACP think to ask themselves if it was a good idea to bring up a lifetime acheivement award to Sterling at this point? Thereās something someoneās not telling us.
Changed your tune since yesterday when I believe you said that it was no big frickinā deal and then you went off about Magic Johnson.
Rather than slink away from your words you should outright apologize and admit that you were wrong.
That is what respectable people do.
Whew!! That was close.
They withdrew the award after Mr. Sterling told the NAACP he didnāt want it bringing any African-Americans to the awards ceremony.
And as if anyone would take seriously the charge that Democrats are inherently and structurally racist. Theyāve definitely latched onto this as their out to prove they are not racist.
Excuse me? I donāt have a clue as to what you are ranting about.
Could you please post the relevant passage that upset you so?
Hereās an interesting factoid I learned while reading this idiot Sterlingās Wikipedia page. His adult son committed murder by shooting his best friend at his fatherās Beverly Hills mansion and was initially arrested but then charges were almost immediately dropped. Four years later the son is dead from an overdose found in his fatherās Malibu apartment. Can you say āMajor Enablerā? Apparently, this family doesnāt know Shit from Shinola when it comes to judgement calls, but they sure have a way with getting themselves off the hook for their bad behaviorā¦and what has it gotten them? Letās hope this time thereās a price to be paid for being such a fucking rich-prick low-life with no sense of decency towards others. And now we learn heās always been somewhat of a racist in one form or another for many years. Iām not at all surprised by any of this.
Just being a racist and having a history of proving it didnāt seem to do the trick. But as soon as this guy wound up on the national evening news, then the racist regulars and the, awards oopsies crowds, came to the conclusion that he was a real racist, because he said it in public.
The same guy espousing the same bigotry was qualified yesterday but not today, just because someone finally paid attention, not because he changed at all.
Donald Sterling is a pig, thatās for sure, but the NAACP were going to honor this pig without batting an eye until he made them look bad. Too late.

Leftflank, I just looked through my comments from yesterday, and find no mention of Magic Johnson.
So perhaps itās time for you toā¦
