Discussion: NAACP: Remove Carvings Of Confederate Leaders From Georgia Mountain

Discussion for article #238406

Some would like to do the same to Mt. Rushmore.

Personally, I’d like to turn the whole thing into a molehill.

They’re going too far with this.

Such monuments to traitors should never have been allowed in the first place.

Taliban stuff here, folks. No battle flag, no flag of any sort…move on. Pollution appears to already be taking a toll…

Instead of removing the current figures, simply add to it.

I think adding Obama, with his arms around both Grant and Lincoln and a cartoon bubble that says “suck it” would add the appropriate amount of historical comeuppance to this “heritage” site.

Apples to oranges. I agree that this might be a bit too far, but calling it Taliban stuff is way over the line. If you do take that line, then the NAACP would be the Taliban. Pretty harsh, I’d say.

We should nuke it from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.

And guilt by association…yikes. Enjoying the play, Mr. Lincoln?

So the guys in that carving were not, in fact, guilty of anything? Who were they associated with that was guilty, then?

It’ll never happen. This goes in the same category with old man railing against clouds.

And the laser shows are pretty cool…if you have altered your mental state appropriately before hand.

Curious- are there statues or memorials to Cromwell in England?

The energy needs to be put in countering the tireless and neverending efforts of neo-confederates to re-write history and ignore the ties to slavery in every facet of their defense of the war.
Not this.
Go for the out of place monuments featuring people with limited (or no) ties to the community it was placed in.

Bingo. Stop teaching the wrong version of history in elementary and high schools, esp. in the South.

It is a monument to National acceptance of the KKK in the past. No way would it be approved for construction today. Progress is maddeningly slow, but we appear to be moving in the right direction.

I’ve read that somewhere.

That’s way too far to go. It smacks of Taliban or ISIS totalitariansim.
