Discussion: Muslim Man Whose Children Were Murdered Forced To Defend His Faith During Hearing

Will the Mooslim boogeyman trope EVER die?

There are bad Muslims.
There are bad Jews,
There are bad Christians,
etc. etc. etc.

Just like all white men are not total raging assholes just because Trump is.

That’s how I read it. They were attempting to defang the Republican hate fest they knew was coming by giving the man the opportunity to go on record at the outset that neither he nor his religion taught his children to hate. It is deeply unfortunate that such an opening gambit was necessary, but it was definitely necessary.

No, it definitely wasn’t. All it does is normalize the idea that Muslims are required to denounce hate. Was every other witness asked if they denounced the evil deeds of anyone who happens to be in their race/religion/gender?

The idea that Muslims are required to hate Jews or anyone else is a bigoted stereotype that should be mocked; not appeased. Anyone who believes this nonsense will only attack him for lying because they’re trained to hate Muslims. That’s what people need to be questioning, not forcing Muslims to denounce hatred for the umpteenth time.

So during the same hearing this happened. I think I love Rep. Ted Lieu, can we get more of him, please?

Sounds to me like Shelia Jackson Lee pitched hmi some softballs to allow him to state, clearly, that Islam does not preach hatred of Muslims. She did not accuse him of fostering hate. The Republicans, on the other hand, were pure Islamaphobia.

Can’t TPM tell the difference?

You know what’s better than having Muslims defend their faith against bigotry? If everyone else did it instead. Seriously, if I was a Democrat wanting to ask about this stuff, I’d call a smart priest or theologian and ask them about Muslims. Asking a Muslim to defend their own faith is pointless and wrong.

Seems he struck a nerve hahaha. Gotta love Ted Lieu.

And her response is classic. That’s her grift and she’s stickin’ to it. It’s just absolutely hilarious that she and Captain Zionism don’t recognize that the tokenism underlying their invitations was a bunch of white nationalists being cynically anti-semitic and racist.

Also classic is the answer Lieu played there. It fits right in with the people like Clarence Thomas and her. She’s so steeped in the sophistry and doublethink. She thinks it proves her to have “figured it all out” and helped her gain the singular enlightenment that the rest of “her people” haven’t been able to achieve as they live and struggle and naively fall prey to the oppressive propaganda, mind-control and indoctrination of the Dems/liberals…all of which she has magically risen above due to her unique snowflakey genius. But you watch her struggle to engage in the sophist’s rationalization about Hitler and nationalism and her answer, like so many of their answers, is sort of one-trick-pony jumping through its one hoop, engaging the semantic game thrusters to forcefully redefine what Hitler did not as nationalism, but globalism, so “haha you’re the Hitler-nazis, not us”. It’s like the “oh, but what if I claim everything is opposite” game is a faux-intellectualism trick they learned in 2nd grade that got them accolades from their teachers.when they were 7. “Oh, she’s so precocious and questions everything!!!” And it’s the one trick they have in their bag as adults. “Nuh uh, so-and-so is the REAL such-and-such!!! Tad dah!!! I’m so fucking brilliant!!! I said it was opposite!!! Isn’t that astute and clever and make-you-thinky???” Captain Brainpills…whatshisface…Ben whatever…does it too.

Makes me wish I could draw so I could provide a picture of dude in Klan regalia carrying a tiki torch asking some black person “What if YOU are the REAL racist? Eh? Ever think of that?”

Germany Christians supported Hitler and the Nazi party in approximately the same proportion as all Germans. In 1939 it is said 90% of Germans supported Hitler and the Nazi party.

Does that mean that Christians are by definition Nazis? Does it mean that Christians are viriulent anti Semites. No. It means that religion does not determine ones politics. Rather it means that organized religions adopt themselves to and find agreement with the predominant political reality of any particular time and place.

In political and cultural contexts religion is eminently malleable to the whims of the prevailing political and cultural reality of the place and time.

For the most part religion becomes manifest of a culture, not a driver of a culture.

Are all Muslims probable ISIS supporters? No. ISIS sprang from the hell that was Iraq and its war and civil war where brutal murder and random death were routine, while an absolute dearth of civil culture created a generation of lost and rootless poor and uneducated people willing to enlist in a crazy cause.

If only someone in the hearing today would have brought up that Christians supported the complete removal of Jews from Germany. Many were perfectly in agreement with the killing of Jews and many Christians enthusiastically participated in the Holocaust. To not have done so was a stupendous failure on their part.

Not that this would win the day. The most radical Conservative Israelis and there are ever more of them, increasingly express hatred for the assimilated Jews of Europe of the Pre WWII era. In some circles expressing support of their elimination by the Nazi’s and bemoan they didn’t finish the job.

Christian Zionists here, which essentially are all Republicans, at least rhetorically. do not consider American Jews who do not support them as real Jews at all. To a large degree the most virulent Jew Hating fascist and Nazi sympathizers of the American right would be quite content if Jews retreated to their ‘homeland’ Israel. They just want Jews gone from here.

Nazi theoreticians, including prominent theologians considered moving Jews to a homeland, Palestine to be specific but considered it impractical.

Which brings us around to how Israel has become the perfect example of a fascist state. A state whose existence is justified by the merging of the land, the soil, and the blood of the people. So history has come full circle. The fascists are winning.

“You and I are survivors,” Rep. Lucy McBath (D-GA)

This is what we need more of in Congress- people who can relate, who an turn their grief into action and still be a compassionate human.

Rep McBath certainly knows how it feels to have your loved one’s reputation smeared. People tried to claim her son was a shotgun welding gangbanger who deserved to be killed in an argument over loud music.

Mort Klein would do well to read the Quran. It instructs Muslims to respect “people of the Book”

OT, but I just read that article about Bibi sending poll watchers with hidden cameras to Arab-heavy polling stations and while the lawyer defending this lawless act clearly means something else in the context of them borrowing the GOP’s voter fraud delusion games as their justification, the following clearly has other meanings you can ascribe to it…what a fucking mouthful…

"The problem is with those people in the Arab sector. The cameras were intended to preserve the purity of the vote.”

Indeed, mofo. We know EXACTLY what you mean.

Yes, but he wasn’t there to defend his religion, he was there to testify about hate crimes and white nationalism. To me it was a story that even Democrats would consider him responsible for doing both, as Muslims constantly are expected to do. Note that not only did they ask him about his religion, they also did not ask him about his children, the reason he was there.

I’d love for someone to ask Mort Klein about the Old Testament or whether the tenets of Zionism are still infused with socialism.
