Discussion: Mueller Stayed Mueller To The Bitter End

It is definitely IMPEACHMENT TIME!!!

So Mueller turns out to be another flawed boy scout, a la James Comey.

You missed the point where he said there were other channels to pursue the Obstruction Charge. That it is up to Congress. Go back and watch Mueller again then report to us.

For the survival of the United States, Donald Trump must be impeached and removed from office. Failure to do this amounts to political malpractice.

And as set forth in the report after that investigation, if we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so. We did not, however, make a determination as to whether the president did commit a crime. The introduction to the volume two of our report explains that decision. It explains that under long-standing department policy, a president cannot be charged with a federal crime while he is in office. That is unconstitutional.

Mueller is obviously saying it’s Congress’ job to hold an unlawful President accountable. It’s long past time for the every member of the GOP to be on the record, on video, being asked if they support the rule of law and if they think the President has upheld is only oath of office, to defend the Constitution.

From what I gather, Mueller believes Trump is guilty, but because that exceeds the bounds of what he was told to do, he will never say that.

His demand to follow his professional standards allows Trump and his gang of deplorables to spin the report any way they want. His strict professionalism is their victory.

Exactly. Hence my “flawed boy scout” analogy that apparently jtx didn’t like much…

Mueller had 400 pages of report that he could have culled from in his statement. What he chose to emphasize is important.

  • We would have cleared Trump if we could have. We did not clear Trump, because we COULD NOT clear Trump.
  • We COULD NOT charge a sitting president with a crime, therefore we DID NOT charge a sitting president with a crime. This DOES NOT mean that the sitting president did not commit a crime, just that we could not charge him with one
  • Since not being able to charge a sitting president with a crime mean he could not face justice via the legal system, the ONLY remedy is through congressional action, i.e. Impeachment

That’s what Mueller said when he didn’t say the things you say he didn’t say.

Congress should still call Mueller in. They can ask pointed questions to get at what Mueller means. If he deflects and/or simply repeats himself, so be it Get it on record that Congress tried to learn as much as possible.

Wow – this was some profile in courage there Mr. Mueller. Once again the bad guys win because the good guys seem to be more interested in being good rather than actually doing the right thing.

All the Mueller stories on the TPM front page have almost wiped out any references to Trump’s twitter noise. It is pristine and lovely. It confirms how his strategy is to dominate every cycle and drive the newss, no matter if it is positive or negative, Trump this or Trump that, preventing the growth of any robust new narratives.

Yeah, sure. Every member of the House of Representatives. We’ve already heard from Senator Mitch McConnell, that he won’t even allow House impeachment on “his” Senate floor.

Which means, most won’t. All the evidence gained by a Democratic House is tainted by it being Democratic. Not saying they shouldn;t but Amash aside, don;t expect many GOPs to put Country before Party.

Which is essentially true: every Se. Majority Leader would say that-the only way he would moderate that if some of his caucus “defect”.

I watched Mueller and I did not think he did Barr or Trump any favors. He contradicted Barr, even though he did not say he thought Barr acted in bad faith. And he did not say there was no evidence of collusion or criminal conspiracy…only insufficient evidence to bring charges. And he made it plain that he thought Trump committed a crime. Keep in mind that Barr and his ilk will be investigating Mueller and his people. I doubt very much if Mueller wants to make it easier for the Trumpies to say he was out to get Trump from the start.

What would you have had him say? He protected the integrity of the investigation and didn’t give anyone a way to exploit his words for cheap political gain. He basically placed responsibility for further action of whatever kind squarely on Congress, where it now rightly belongs. Everything else is commentary.

Here is my response to Senator Booker on Twitter re: his call for impeachment:

Dear Senator Booker: Can you put forth an argum. as to how your Republican colleagues arrive at a CONVICTION? Also, what how do you handle the issue of Sen. Manchin? Thanks in advance. https://t.co/MKRkyFWvBk

I did not get that impression at all…what exactly did you want him to say?

A quarterback can throw a touchdown pass only if a receiver catches the ball and crosses the goal line.
