Discussion: Mueller Report Blows Up Barr's 'No Collusion=No Obstruction' Canard

They explode all over my lawn.

I think Mueller played this exactly right. Unless Mueller was actually going to go against DOJ policy and indict, a conclusion the President committed a crime would be gratuitous and further polarizing. The facts speak for themselves.

An exploding canard—everybody duck!

Barr’s version of Mueller’s report wasn’t all it was quacked up to be.

I’d agree, but one can never tell what is around the corner with Republicans. I never underestimate them.

Remember a little less than a couple years before November of 2016, we thought Trump would lose in a landslide also.

Not only did Trump win, so did Reagan and GW Bush. Pappy Bush wasn’t all that appealing either. Thanks to the Willie Horton ads, he still won.

If Pence got rid of all tariffs and made a great deal with China, the market would respond with healthy gains. It’s possible a loser like him could win with help from the one percent and market manipulations.
Add in their usual shenanigans, I’m not so sure Pence would be an automatic loss. He would pick up more of the religious votes than Trump did.

Yeah, I think they should impeach him AND defeat him at the polls.

Do you remember the fucking gall of Henry Hyde, who was a lifetime adulterer conducting Impeachment against Bill Clinton? And the numerous Republican House members who were all documented adulterers? Including Rep. Dan Burton, who was, like Clinton, having an affair with a female intern? Who also gave us David Bosie? Do you remember Newt Gingrich railing about Family Values and Amorality? Before people found out what an adulterous cheating scumbag he is in his personal life? Do you remember the right wing Jackass Chief Justice Rhenquist showing up to preside over the Hearings with braided epaulettes on his robe, custom made for the Hearings? Which he apparently got from some Gilbert and Sullivan operetta?

I think the focus of next step would be to convince the public and get Mueller to say that he intended for the Congress to decide on Trump’s obstruction.

I was with you until i read this bullet. I’d leave it at, ‘leave office immediately in exchange for no impeachment proceedings.’ That’s it. I want that daughterfucker to face criminal charges. He should not be a free man. Neither should either of his his sons. Baron can graduate high school first. Then we’ll see about him.

There is sufficient intent in even the redacted version of the report. He never hid his intent and Mueller didn’t ignore it - he just punted it back to Congress.

And I am sure Barr scrubbed entire pages out solely because it would make Dotard look even sleazier and more cowardly.

Trump henchman Barr is smart. He knows he was lying for Trump and seeking to cover up his crimes. He just doesn’t care.

Then do it to raise the costs of staying in office.

I think this one belongs on the list:

“Oh my God. This is terrible. This is the end of my Presidency. I’m fucked.”

trump will go full blown authoritarian and never leave office if he is convinced he’ll get hammered upon leaving, but he only listens to the last person he spoke with so there’s a work around there. I think the trick is to lie to him and tell him all will be ok if he just resigns and then fucking nail him. Wear him out with investigations, get him all jacked up on cognitive dissonance (just like he does at his rallies) get him to resign and then throw the hammer down.

Yeah, yeah, I know…but we can all write a script here.

Irony alert: According to his last 2 years as Apprentice POTUS, trump would get the “You’re Fired!” meme on his own damn show!

He has no choice.

Nobody gets a choice about leaving or staying after their term is up. They are escorted out of the White House once the election is certified by Congress. If he wants to take it to court after that, fine. He still has no choice. He will be forced to leave.

That’s where I was before the report came out because I felt like an acquittal in the senate would be bad for us. Now that the report has come out, and especially because it undermines Barr’s claims about it, I think an acquittal would be bad for them. When you add in the additional information dems will get through House investigations, plus whatever comes out of the state investigations, plus the currently redacted information, I think the republicans will be in worse shape if they acquit than if they convict and elevate Pence.

Don’t count on that if he gets re-elected.

Of course he won’t be forced to leave if his term isn’t up.
