Discussion: Mueller Probe Highlights Why It Pays To Cooperate With The Government

As much as it disturbs me that these traitors are getting off with minimal impact. If it eventually takes down Trump and his merry band of fraudsters, traitors, abusers, and yes… the “grown ups” in the room. So be it.

Thank you E Tucker, for the comparisons to the Enron story.
They make me hopeful.
When I read comparisons to the Whitewater stuff I squirm.
If the tv folks talk Nixon I feel old.
Thanks again for hopeful!

I wouldn’t trust Flynn as far as I could throw him.

Mueller has assembled a prosecutorial dream team. And word is that tRump thinks he can go toe-to-toe with Mueller in an interview. Oh, god yes! Please keep him thinking he’s smarter than everyone else.

Speaking of this guy, last night while I was flipping through the channels I caught a piece from Henry Louis Gates Jr’s “Black America Since MLK”. I caught it when Obama went to NO after Hurricane Katrina and his senate speech. Then they moved on to his run for the Presidency.
God I want to go back to feeling that hopeful again. :weary:

But unfortunately what happened to Skirpal and his daughter show why it does not pay to cooperate. In fact, it was done so very publicly to communicate that precise message. They could have eliminated them quietly, but chose not to. And now they have learned the lesson that they can be reached at any time, and can never be adequately protected, they will probably cooperate – with the FSB (former KGB). And you can be sure that Manafort has gotten the message.

I look forward to hearing from the right that Mueller needs to be tough on crime.

Well, some on the right are cognizant of reality…

they too could receive favorable treatment if they agree to work with investigators

I’m sure Trump would like nothing better than to emblazon his name all over what little skyline there is in Mykonos, but still …

Yep. Manafort is not cooperating because he knows the Russians will kill him if he does. I don’t think he will ever come around, and I would bet that he holds the most keys to getting to Trump, his kids, and his posse. It will remain to be seen what can be proven without Manafort’s info. But I think he will chose life in prison before death by Russians.

The article does a good job of highlighting the pros and cons of cooperation – for both defendants and prosecutors. But I’m not sure about using Alex van der Zwaan as “the latest example” of the benefits of cooperation. I don’t know whether he’s cooperating or not.

He may actually be an example of another defense strategy – pleading guilty, accepting responsibility, showing contrition (he didn’t actually do to well at that), and asking for mercy. This would make sense if his fear of retribution at home is greater than his fear of the government. For a lawyer, taking a felony is a pretty big hit that can have career-ending consequences.

Keep chipping away at the base, Mr. Mueller, and Trump Tower will collapse.

Awww! And this is Trump’s favorite “news” source. Napolitano may have to find a new job!

I think if it were his death he was worried about, he’d probably cut a deal, but I’m sure that Putin’s ‘staff’ has let him know he’ll be the last member of his family to die if he talks…and his death will be the most pleasant.
