He will rightfully die in prison.
Manafort had also argued that since the charges on which he was found guilty after his August trial were unrelated to the special counsel’s mandate, he should receive leniency from the judge.
The police raided my house because they smelled pot, but then found ten dead bodies in the basement. It’s not fair I’m being prosecuted for multiple murders.
I would also add it’s a little rich for him to argue Mueller couldn’t prove conspiracy with Russia so he should be let off easy, when the very reason for that is probably his lies and withholding of evidence.
He had the opportunity to cooperate to save himself and his family, but chose to lie and obstruct instead. Like the rest of these goons, he thought he was smarter than the prosecution, smarter than the courts.
Goodbye, good riddance, and fuck you Manafort.
Lock him up.
Pardon me?
NOPE.
Prove? More of a matter of just not being charged, Yet.
Judge is going to have fun with the sentencing statement.
Edit:
I’m hoping that @christianhankel is Judge Ellis’s TPM handle:
Goodbye, good riddance, and fuck you Manafort.
Paulie? Won’t see him no more.
Don’t put too many onions in the sauce, Paulie.
Mueller: also, water wet, sun likely to rise in the east tomorrow, and we’re still looking for that bear in the woods.
Take the cannoli.
It’s Ellis. First thing he’s going to do is impress us all with him being the judge.
“The government also argued that Manafort was not experiencing the dire health problems he had claimed in previous filings.”
Glad they threw that one in there. He was bouncing along quite nicely before he got caught lying reg. his cooperation agreement. There is no sleazy tactic he won’t try.
Can’t wait for Thursdays sentencing. Will be interesting to see if Judge Ellis throws the book at him.
“None of his prescribed treatments or medications indicates that his life is in any danger from a long period of incarceration,” prosecutors wrote.
That may be true but being 69 years old and facing 19-24 is a good indication that his life is in actuarial danger from a long period of incarceration. For that I offer him my thoughts and prayers.
Can we stipulate and get on with it?
serious risk of recidivism
You think?
The biggest threat to his life is not his health but from unhappy Russians. For his safety, they need to put him in a 5’ by 7’ concrete box in a Federal Supermax facility.
Yes, we can’t punish him for unproven crimes that we may “know” he committed, but we certainly don’t have to go easy on him for having committed proven crimes.
Manafort is possibly unique in this circus in combining the knowledge of what was wrong, the mental bandwidth to understand what a wrong thing is, some level of competence in executing the wrong thing, and a complete lack of, not just remorse, but remorse that he’s not even able to feign remorse.
A notably dangerous and deranged animal. Society must sure punish the idiot Trump failsons, but society must protect itself from Paul Manafort.
