Discussion: Mueller Investigators Asking About Trump Business In Russia Prior To 2016

The leaks, and the interviewees reporting back to the Trump camp on what they’re being asked about. If his lawyers aren’t banking on a resignation deal or a coup, I don’t know what other strategy they might have in mind. Being wildly guilty is a great complication to any defense strategy, I’d think.

Which is why Mueller has already FIRMLY established that Russia did indeed run a covert campaign, on multiple fronts, to interfer in our election. Mueller specifically did it in a non Trump threatening way, so that Trump, FAUX, and the Trumpster idiots would all FINALLY stop calling the Russian investigation a politically motivated witch hunt and switch to their new MO:

“Oh YES, YES there WAS a Russian interference campaign in our presidential election — and it’s all Obama’s fault!!”

Clever, this Mueller guy…

I have been wondering about the timing of his “Breaking News! Trump Is Running for Reelection!!” news earlier this week. Like duh. He has been doing that since inauguration day. But why make a flashy - “Look at Me!” to do in the rw press - This Week. Perhaps to counter the ‘he’s starting to look guilty’ impression slowly seeping into even the edges of the GOP - as in - if he was ~really~ guilty, why would he run for reelection. To Trump and his team reality means nothing. Created Image/Illusion (or in this case delusion) means everything.

They really reeled that fat fish in didn’t they? Toyed with him like an Orca with a seal.

Right. So the Trump negative “leaks” to the press (have there been positive ones? Serious question here) are Trump foes. Press leaks are what I’m referring to. Running back and talking to the WH lawyers is just debriefing in my book. And of course that’s what the pro Trump criminals are doing. Hell, they are scared and looking for legal comfort.

So…are the leaks to the press in any way, shape or form connected to Mueller’s strategy? Man, if I was in there, and he asked me questions that he said were STRICTLY confidential, I sure wouldn’t breath a word to anyone. And if he said, hey, this can leave this office, I would GALLOP to WaPo or CNN.

That’s the key to understanding everything he does. For him, the world he imagines at any moment is as real as what we call reality is to us. I know I have limitations and have failed at many things. Most people do. He doesn’t. When he says he thinks maybe it wasn’t his voice on the Accent Hollywood tape, he’s dress-rehearsing a new, less painful imagined world.

@edys I take your point, but those most in need of it aren’t going to be reading or listening to Friedman anytime soon.

I don’t know, but I guess if the leaks about the investigation we’ve heard are negative toward Trump, it’s because there’s very little in the situation that’s positive for him. What are you going to find, if you start turning over the rocks in his world? All the good things he’s done and many proofs of innocence and straightforward dealing? Seems doubtful. And again, I don’t think Mueller’s team ever leaks. For one thing, it would hugely weaken his case and position.

I think USA Today has done a pretty good job with its editorial page.
In fact, I think USA Today’s Op-Eds should be required reading for NY Times Op-Ed writers.

Does it really weaken it? I think perhaps the occasional leak of Trump damning info. strengthens Mueller’s case because it triggers desperate, blatant lies and spin from Trump. And I certainly think the leakers are anti Trump, so my guess is they would not leak anything that would weaken the case against him.

Or am I just totally over thinking this?

That’s why we might have a shot (excuse the pun) at gun legislation: he’s pissed that that damn pesky massacre in Parkland is taking attention away from him. He’s already had to discuss it, what, twice? He’s paid probably at least 45 seconds of actual attention to it! Geez Louise!

As the CNN article notes, these questions that Mueller poses have been out there a while, Seth Abramson on his twitter feed has delved into them pretty extensively from a legal perspective.

I find Mueller’s timeline of investigation interesting. We are hearing about this only after Trump campaign officials are rolled and Russians indicted. The investigation proceeds in such an organized way, it almost as if Mueller knows all the answers already, and yes as the article says, he is just ticking boxes.

However, what CNN did not note, that might be terrible news for Trump.

All of us, including at least to a minor degree even Mueller, are the blind man tasked with describing an elephant while grasping its tail. Trump’s finances, lies, byzantine business deals and years of operating with essentially the same inscrutable business model as the Mafia certainly makes getting to the bottom of things a slog.

I’m thinking not of what information might be in the leaks but the fact of leaking at all. This administration has weaponized the counterattack of charging that leaks are wrong and in many cases illegal. Depending on the regulations involved it could even be used as a pretext for firing Mueller. It could certainly be used as evidence of prejudice and unprofessionalism.
