Discussion: Muah!: Dem Hopes To 'Piss Off' Trump With Ad, Runs It On 'Fox And Friends'

Maryland gubernatorial candidate Rich Madaleno aired a campaign ad Thursday on ā€œFox and Friendsā€ that ended with him kissing his husband in an attempt to ā€œpiss offā€ President Donald Trump.

I don’t think this is helpful.

ā€˜I did X to own the libs’ is honestly a form of campaigning I’d be willing to not adopt from the GOP.

edit to add: I don’t much like the idea of weaponizing a loving, healthy relationship, either. Their marriage to do with as they please, but [redacted] I wouldn’t be comfortable doing it.

Likely not, but it sure is satisfying to watch. Having been born & raised in Maryland, it is impressive how far the ā€œfree stateā€ has come to live up to that nickname.

I have no fundamental problem with it. As a practical matter, however, the GOP gets to do it because it works with their base. It does not work with the liberal base because there are too many spineless pussies out there who cringe at the thought of fighting fire with fire, preferring to play the high-horse/high-road game because, apparently, they don’t feel right unless they’re hamstringing themselves.

Hahahahahahaha well this is certainly fighting back. It’s also fighting back using their tactics. I’ll be interested to see how it goes with the public.

Why is he spending ad dollars to piss off Trump and poke the GOP base hornets nest? Money would be better spent on ads that excite his own base. Leave the GOP alone and feeling less enthusiastic about showing up.

My thinking it is boorish and crass has very little to do with being a ā€œspineless pussyā€, but thank you for your concern.

Nice back-handed homophobia there.

What has me giggling is the thought of the angry old retired white conservative bigot dudes who watch Faux News all day because Faux News deliberately keeps them in a state of semi-arousal with all the tits and legs and ass they have the women displaying in their tight little onesie dresses…and then bam…their first chubby in 3 years gets all busted by the imagery of two guys kissing haha. ā€œDamnit…Gertrude…bring me my blue pills!!!ā€

…is there some etymology here of which I’m unaware? Honest question.

As a general concept to piss off Trump, and 98% of other Republicans, I like it.

Not sure it works as a political ad for a campaign for governor. That may depend on the nature of the Republican attacks against Madaleno in general and this kind of ad, specifically.

ā€œAnd what’s the number one way I piss off Donald Trump and the Republicans?ā€ asked Madaleno before turning to kiss his husband, Mark Hodge.

After watching that entire ad, and its repeated kick in the Trump ghoulies, even I wanna kiss Madaleno…

Two Scoops is a perpetually pissed off infant so why waste time and money hoping to piss him off?

They’re targeting the wrong Republican. I’m certain that Trump has literally no opinion on LBGTQ rights. Pence, on the other hand…

That’s not just trolling, that is an assassination attempt. He’s trying to make Drumpf stroke out with his face in a bowl of cheetos.

First rule of politics or any other form of performance art: know your audience. Sure, I can point out the Dem/liberal spinelessness disguised as ā€œmaturityā€ or ā€œbeing the adultā€ or whatever euphemism people want to use…can shout at the clouds about it all I want…but I recognize that if I was a politician trying to get the liberal base’s votes, the practical reality is that I’d have to pander to the cowardice they use to feel superior.
