Discussion: MSNBC Promotes Claim That Joy Reid's Homophobic Blog Posts Result Of Hack

Well, everybody’s perfect.

Let me guess: It was the Russians…

"When we reviewed the archives, we found nothing to indicate tampering or hacking of the Wayback Machine versions. At least some of the examples of allegedly fraudulent posts provided to us had been archived at different dates and by different entities,” the Internet Archive wrote in a blog post. “We let Reid’s lawyers know that the information provided was not sufficient for us to verify claims of manipulation.”

That’s a very carefully couched statement.

The Internet Archive added that after they declined to remove the posts, the archives disappeared due to an action carried out by an unauthorized third party.

What? So, wait. You can’t find any signs you were hacked–which, of course you might not if the hackers were halfway competent–but “unauthorized third parties” can change things on your site? Isn’t that what we call “hacking?”

The oozes ratfuckery of precisely the same kind Roger Stone instigated against Franken. They know it will work because they know we eat our own at the drop of a hat.

The internet is forever folks. Either own up to what you’ve said and done in the past or go down denying it (unless you’re a Republican, of course).

Joy looks to be the next person on the list who is a target. I’m glad to see MSNBC has her back (so far).

Think about how many times we rushed to judgment and took down one of our own before all the facts were in. This is the whole point of Roger Stone, Project Veritas and, for that matter, yeah, Russian hacking.

Joy Reid is a thorn in the right’s flesh. Don’t think for a minute they wouldn’t do this if they could.

It would be stupid to continue defending her after the evidence is incontrovertable, but I think we owe everyone at least a couple of months. But no one can have a couple of months now that the world is on Internet time, where seconds are days.

So OK, I’m confused. Did she or didn’t she get hacked? If the internet archive disappeared by some third party, what exactly do you call that? Something ain’t right with all the finger pointing going on. If the Wayback Machine can be hacked, which it possibly can be based on this article, we’re really dealing with some devious shit, and history is being re-written even as I sit here.

OMG, I also thought of Al Franken.

I am a big fan of Joy Reid and watch her show and listen to her Reid This, Reid That podcast, which is very informal and with Jackie Reid. She is not a homophobe in any sense of the word.

Yep. Shirley Sherrod is a good example.

Edited to add:

“When we extended our invitation to Ms. Reid to honor her at our 45th anniversary celebration, we did so knowing about the blog posts from the late 2000s regarding Charlie Crist. We appreciated how she stepped up, took ownership, apologized for them, and did better—this is the behavior and approach we ask of any ally. However, in light of new information, and the ongoing investigation of that information, we must at this time rescind our award to Ms. Reid,” PFLAG National president Jean Hodges said in a statement.

Mission accomplished.

…and what about if you HAVEN’T done it? Are you supposed to ‘own up’ because of pressure? I think it’s time to stand UP. It seems ‘suspicious’ that in the last couple of weeks ‘things’ have surfaced that no one ever heard of, not a whisper, before. When do we start judging people on their ACTIONS? Especially the actions that we have actually witnessed instead of these murky allegations?

Sounds to me at least from the article that Joy said some things that are somewhat Homophobic in the past, and owned up to it. Then people who dislike Joy are running a smear campaign to try to make a mountain out of a molehill.

I’m pretty sure just from watching her that if Joy Reid made an inappropriate comment, she would be the type of person to own up to it and issue an apology. If she says she didn’t write something, I for one, believe her.

Come to think of it, if Joy did write the things theyre claiming she did in the blog, wouldn’t it have gotten notice then - from people on our side? I mean we do tend to be more , ummm, vocal about certain issues that are important on the left. A nasty post about homosexuals would certainly raise flags and commotion.

Great points and I agree. She doesnt strike me as the type to lie about something like this and shes smart enough to know its best to just admit what she said and move on.

I believe her as well.

Ratfuckery indeed. She’s becoming more popular and gaining a larger audience so of course somebody’s going after her. And she’s smart, well-spoken, a woman, and black–so yeah, can’t have that /s

Might want to delay that Profiles in Courage nomination for PFLAG National president Jean Hodges for a bit, too. You know - just until the investigation is completed.

Absolutely she would

When guys like Trump, Pompeo and too many GOPers to name skate every day, I won’t pay a moment’s notice to this. It’s quite likely Reid is getting Roger Stoned here, where there is a combination of fake comments intermingled with real ones. HRC was victimized in that way by Wikileaks. It’s also possible that, like the Weiner case, those that hate Reid on the far left did find some actual comments which may be offensive.

My point is IDGAF. Joy Reid is an important voice on tv. If she has a homophobic past (and frankly, if you’re from Reid’s generation, you grew up in the most homphobic climate ever in the 80s so it’s quite possible as most people from that generation ‘evolved’ on the issue), she clearly doesn’t believe that stuff now. And can we get real for a moment?..Mike Pence is VP. That right there is a homophobe, not Joy Ann Reid. Not gonna get worked up over this. If Reid loses her job over this, it’s stupid.

I don’t think Joy should have her Sunday show, but that’s because I rather see her take Chris Matthews spot.
