Discussion: 'Mr. Cucci-Cucci?': McDonnell Witness Disses Former VA Attorney General

Discussion for article #226154

Yes, Ms. Gucci?

“…between HE and former Star Scientific…” not grammatically correct. Should be between HIM and former. Journalists should have basic grammar. Where are your grammar police?

I assumed this was an homage to Charo, no?

“… between HE and …” I have been seeing a rash of overcorrection recently. It does indicate that people are TRYING to be good grammarians but don’t know how.

Could English exist if we just eliminated objective case pronouns? It works fine for you (I mean the word “you” not your esteemed self)

I’ve been curious as to why Cuccinelli skated on this. Gifts to the Governor are different to gifts to the Attorney General? I guess it pays to be in charge of law enforcement if one is involved in law breaking.

I wonder about that too. He went back and claimed the gifts on a disclosure form, but if it was indeed a quid pro quo, I would think he would be at least as corrupt as the Governor seems to be. Perhaps more so since it appears that the Cuch’s wife was not involved and so can’t be blamed.

Copy editors have gone the way of buggy-whip manufacturers, unfortunately.

It indicates they’re not trying very hard.

I am relieved that Ken Cucci-cucci is no longer a state officer and no longer a viable candidate for dog catcher.

“Cuccinelli? I don’t know a Mr. Cuccinelli,” Perito said.

He’s a political has-been…

Well, at least he didn’t refer to Ex-Governor vaginal probe as, Ex-Governor vaginal probe. And his forlorn wife as, what’s her name?

“Perito may have been ‘playing a bit.’”
You think? Those Italian names are SO hard for other Italians.

They’re not teaching English grammar in schools anymore, and the ubiquitous nature of both broadcast and social media means that bad grammar has become acceptable. My pet peeve is using “lay” when it should be “lie”, as in “I’m going to lie down”. And now it’s spread northward. Ugh!

Anyhow, a VA friend always referred to him as Kookie-nelli, intentionally mispronouncing his name!

Way off Cucci, but the incorrect grammar is just too much for someone like myself who sometimes verges on pedantry. The “he” instead of “him”, of course and the “somebody and I” used by people who should know better including this president (“that made Michelle and I very happy. . .”) or Steven Spielberg asking during a Q& “are there more questions for John and I?” Maddow seems to love “these ones”, and unfortunately the speakers I’ve cited have all written either books or screenplays. How do they not know better? Lay vs lie? Also a pet peeve.

It could have been worse.

His name could have been “Cooter” or “Pusay” or even “Clunt.”
