Seriously: These sorts of arguments are coming from the same type of social conservatives who promoted “bathroom bills” in part out of fears that men would enter women’s bathrooms, where their own daughters would be, and make inappropriate advances at them.
I simply don’t see how they don’t see the incongruity of their position–especially, coming as it does, from that wing of the party which claims to have a death-grip on logical, rigorous** thinking.

Wow! Looking over the excuses given in each of the three camps, basically not one person can say he didn’t do it. All they’re left with is defending the indefensible. In their twisted world, it’s worse to be a Democrat than a pedophile. Personally, I have no interest in talking to or trying to gain the vote of these type of people. Life’s too short.

Roy Moore said last week that he had the permission from the mothers of several teenage girls to do just that. It had some biblical connotation to it, if i recall.
If there is nothing problematic about a 30 year old asking a 16 year old out for a date, then no parent of a 16 year old can be faulted for staying out of HIS church’s Sunday school. Seriously, I remember when Jerry Seinfeld got all kinds of flak for dating a 19 year old college student and he kept saying things like “Shoshanna is more than just her age.” Outside of politics there is no doubt in my mind that parents in Alabama would be beyond pissed if a 30 year old tried to go out with their 16 year old daughter. They know this is wrong. They don’t care.
Looking for morally superior argument from a 2017 conservative talking head is a fool’s errand. The most powerful argument that they have is “Vote for X because it will make the liberals’ heads explode”. That is the reason that Trump beat the clown car and the reason why Moore beat Big Luthor.
If the puppet masters at Breitbart and Fox could figure out a way to get Charles Manson on the ballot they would do it. But, then the headline whores would search desperately for someone that could get bigger headlines and Bannon would suggest digging up John Wayne Gacy. It is literally a race to the bottom of the septic tank.
After someone gave Roy Moore a copy of the famous Alabama self-help book, “Dating Outside the Family”, at least he broke new ground by seeking underage girls who weren’t blood relatives. Credit where it’s due, people!!

Back when I was in grad school, even the notion of cavorting with an (otherwise unaffiliated) underclassman undergrad was considered skeevy and gross. I’m sure it happened, and there weren’t robust social norms that absolutely forbade it, but you’d never let your advisor or your colleagues see you two together in the bright light of day.
It wasn’t proper. It was conduct unbecoming.

I know of a prosecutor who was handling a statutory rape case. Apparently the suspect made some crack about “grass on the field, play ball!” that was not corroborated. The victim later became reluctant to testify and the case was dropped. I got the impression that both parties just wanted it to go away and chalk it up to youthful stupidity.
Their “defense” is very simple; anyone except a Democrat. Amoral, lying, miserable excuses for decent human beings, every one of them. (The defenders of pedophilia, not the Democrats.)
