Likely reception by most of the Christian Conservatives who buy the persecution grievance: But the Supreme Court… Babies! Perhaps Shelby really is a RINO.

Reception of a sliver of Christian Conservatives who are slightly torn/or at least uncomfortable: Well… maybe. If Shelby is voting for a write in Repub, and knows that works like a vote for Jones, maybe he really knows there will just be another election soon to replace Moore - and maybe we should send a message. (And then for most of this group)… nah… Supreme Court… Babies!

Zackly. I’ll give him some credit, I guess. But I think whether the state of Alabama deserves better is something the state’s voters have to demonstrate at this point.

ETA wait—now I want to take back half that credit. It’s obvious Moore is entirely unfit. The question is what voters ought to do about it. Writing in a “distinguished Republican” who isn’t going to win just avoids the issue. If he’d said you should vote for Jones, that Democrats are perfectly capable of representing the state even if he disagrees politically with them (whatever that means in a post-policy political world) then I’d be mildly impressed.
