Discussion: MO GOP Signals It'll Put Measure Gutting Redistricting Reform On 2020 Ballot

No surprises here, anything that makes voting more fair and gets more people to vote is anathema to the Republicans. The question will now become if the people of MO fall for whatever propaganda Republicans throw out in support of this…maybe they will stand up to it and vote this down, and maybe vote out more Republicans while they are at it. It’s really the only hope to stop more corruption of our election system.

Republican Redistricting Ballot Reform = Let (Republican) Politicians Choose their Voters, not the other way around.

The Republican Motto, if you can’t Win Fairly, then Cheat. The biggest perpetrator of voter Fraud and Cheating have been shown to be the Republican Party. This is going to be their down fall.

MO voter here. KC, St. Louis, and Columbia will overwhelmingly reject this. Unfortunately, the rest of the state is deep red and susceptible to GOP propaganda and your typical culture war framing. I suspect the GOP push will be wrapped in some sort of “brown people are coming to rape your daughters” type messaging.

Missouri Republicans have defended the new measure gutting Clean Missouri by claiming that voters didn’t really know what they were voting for when they voted for the 2018 initiative, which also included several ethics reform provisions.

The same could be said for every single voter of cast a ballot for T rumpp in 2016. In that case, i’ll agree. The voters were stupid!

Do they really think that they can buy enough votes to turn back the will of the voters last November? Do they realize how this will galvanize Democrats?

Yes.

No.

There is no “if” in the statement about winning. They know good and well the only way they can win is by cheating. I long for the day when the Republican Party goes the way of the Whigs and Know-Nothings.

Last election MO voters soundly defeated a right to work law being pushed through the legislature with the help of out of state money. It was at least the second time they’ve defeated such a law in this state… But the republican-dominated legislature keeps trying to find ways to get around the will of the voters - even the ones from their own party. And true to form, MO Republican voters never catch on to the fact that their elected Republican leaders don’t represent their interests.

Winston Churchill: “The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”

H. L. Menken - Baltimore Evening Sun, July 26th, 1920;
“As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and a complete narcissistic moron.”

Under the logic of “voters didn’t understand what they were voting for”, could we then reverse elections that put lying republicans into power? These craven power grabs would be pathetic if they weren’t so often successful.

A vote for the Democrat is a vote for democracy. Vote for the GOP and you’re throwing away your future right to have a voice in government. That’s what it’s come down to.

Clean Missouri is the will of the people, but according to the GOP what the hell do the people know.

“The new measure, if put on the 2020 ballot, will lead with a provision to completely ban lobbyists’ gifts to lawmakers, after Clean Missouri put a $5 limit on them.”

Deliberately trying to trick people into voting for it. Nice. Impeachment is a distraction. It’s time for blue states to secede and defend it with arms.

That is because the Democratic party has abandoned Missouri. Missouri would go blue if the party tried just a little bit.

Missouri has several Republican billionaires, but no Democratic billionaires who are interested in good governance.
