And it is those of us who follow closely that are doing the learning (how things should work vs. how they shouldn’t-which is being done). They earn (and do incompetent and sometimes downright evil work), while we learn.

Mnuchin cryptically added that “it is my responsibility to supervise the [IRS] commissioner.”

Tales from the Crypt.

So what?

If House Republicans had demanded Obama’s tax returns (maybe to make sure that they matched the ones he released, or that the ones he released were complete), would we be up in arms at learning that the Treasury consulted with the White House?

We need to keep some sense of perspective here. That there’s a huge amount of corruption is clear, but that does not mean that everything they do is corrupt.

The obvious follow up question would be, “With whom have you had any conversation on this subject?”

ETA: “With whom have you had any communication on this subject?” -Gotta cover all the bases.

I think it was Maddow last night that brought up a long-standing (Congressional?) mandate that any and all tax matters be handled solely by the IRS commissioner, not the Treasury Secretary. Trumpists really have nowhere to go with this one, not that that will keep them from kicking and screaming to the contrary.

And the IRS’ chief legal counsel, Michael Desmond, had previously worked on Trumps taxes while in private practice, and that law firm still represents Trump.

Agent Orange’s IRS commissioner, Charles Rettig, owns 50% shares of two one-bedroom apartments in the Waikiki Trump Internal Hotel, and he wrote this:

Who can we thank? Mostly Mitch McDonnell and his partisan republicants for this amazing gift to America.
