“The strategy doesn’t work if somebody points out that he’s lying, but Mitch is willing to bet on it anyway.”
Well, this guy is the Minority Leader of the Senate and Obstructionist in Chief. Any suggestion that his strategy doesn’t work if somebody points out that he’s lying is clearly questionable.
The fact is, the people who vote for him don’t care if he’s lying or not, because should he be lying, it’s just a means to an end and entirely justified in their minds.
This is why Mitch is desperate: the Grimes GOTV campaign is in full swing!
Nearly 4,000 volunteers across KY
Reached out to nearly 400,000 voters thus far
Over 3,000 meetings held with individual supporters (1:1s)
Over 30 offices or staging locations for GOTV across the state
And last night, Grimes once again kicked ass, gave Chuck Toad a verbal EFF YOU, and Mrs. Clinton was on fire!
“…Mitch McConnell has an almost impressive ability to utter up-is-down, black-is-white lies with a straight face…”
He lies. Everybody knows it. Values voters have no values.
Tell me lies tell me sweet little lies…begs Mitch’s voters.
To be fair, half the country is of below average intelligence.
WE are not stupid and Mitch knows that, but he is counting on the fact that those who would vote for him among his CONSTITUENTS are stupid, and he is probably correct in that assumption.
I’m glad TPM brought this up. It’s such a great point that the media and grimes are letting McConnell get away with these easily debunked lies. Both would rather focus on whether Grimes voted for the president. Which is why Grimes won’t defend the president’s record. It’s hard to if run away the guy.
Its looks like Seth D. Michaels of TPM wrote the playbook on to defeat McConnell too bad Grimes didn’t choose Seth as her strategist. She’d be winning
Mitch McConnell counts on some stupidity but gut hatred is more his forte. People that say that they don’t like affordable health care or improving it to be even better, are just lying to themselves like McConnell is. They hate the half black President that they have been told to distrust and despise for the last 6 or 7 years and would cut off their own noses rather than give an inch an agree that he has done some good things for them.
Hate and stupidity are a mean mix and a true charlatan like Mitch McConnell is exploiting them for all they are worth.
The people who vote for him want him to lie. It’s politics by deception, misfeasance, and malfeasance. Republicans who run the party now are pretty good at those things.
We have a wonderful example for understanding this in the ABC/WaPo Poll results about ebola fears that Josh posted on the left side of the main page today. Read them. You couldn’t ask for a better set of data showing precisely why it is so fundamentally important to and such a core tenet of GOP/Teatroll strategery, ideology and policy-making that the unwashed masses be kept as stupid and uneducated as fucking possible.
McConnell doesn’t just think that the populace of Kentucky is stupid and uneducated; he actively works to make it so and is BETTING on it.
“The strategy doesn’t work if somebody points out that he’s lying, but Mitch is willing to bet on it anyway.”
Well with the media what it is today that seems to be a pretty safe bet so far, sort of like betting that the sun will set in the west or that water is, in fact, wet.
Grimes is doing just fine. Why the hell else are Mitch and the GOP trolling and baiting her? They see her as a genuine threat. All they need is the one sound bite of her defending the President, and it’s all over for her in KY. Remember, she’s running in a red state, and nothing will make embracing someone who looks like the President in that state acceptable.
Indeed. “Our job is to simply report what he said and treat it as legitimate, not question, research, analyze, criticize or test any of it. And don’t be fucking ridiculous. If we used the L-word about anything the GOP/Teatrolls said, we’d lose all access to them, and we cannot let that happen. We’re only allowed to use that word on black presidents.”
Exactly! It’s funny, James Carroll, a much respected KY political reporter, tried to explain this to Chris Matthews the other night but Matthews didn’t get it. I find that people who don’t live in a red state or those who live in diverse states simply can’t fathom what Grimes’ is up against. They don’t understand that there’s no effective way to say she voted for Obama without being hammered with it later.
As Seth wisely pointed out:
If “Obamacare” doesn’t mean “Kynect” it doesn’t really mean anything other than an excuse to say “Obama.”
Anyone who watched the debate saw McConnell attempt to make every single subject about Obama. Everything was an excuse to say “Obama” again and again and again. The reason for that is because he knows damn well just how effective it is in KY to malign the president.
…intended consequence of NeoCon efforts to dumb down Americans.
Ignorant folks are much easier to scare and manipulate.
Government keep your hands off of my Kynect.
Yes people in Kentucky will vote to get rid of the Obamacare because they can still keep their Kynect. Lying works unless it’s about a mistress having an abortion. And as a Tennesse district has shown, that’s not even worth lying about.
Yep, I posted this in a previous discussion on Grimes “running away from Obama,” but I think I will repeat it. If Grimes were to say that she voted for Obama all it would do is provide a sound bite the GOP would use to hammer her. I can even picture how they would do it, the ad would probably look something like this:
Shadowed picture of Grimes in the lower right corner and larger washed out picture of Obama as the main image.
Que text and a voice over laying out random right wing conspiracy/dog whistle followed by sound bite of Grimes saying “I voted for Obama.”
Repeat for a few more conspiracies following each with a play of the sound bite, all while slowly zooming in until Obama and Grimes faces fill the screen.
Then finish with something like “She voted for Obama. Can you trust her to vote for Kentucky?” scare cord, fade to black.
In a choice between ads like that and the media whining about her not answering a question, media whining is the better option. Especially, when it is a question like this where everyone knows the answer and the only reason they are asking it is to get a sound bite they can use in ads like that.
I wonder what it would cost to make and air a commercial as person who does not live in Kentucky saying to Kentuckians that while I do not live in Kentucky, unlike those who are supporting McConnell and don’t live in Kentucky, I want you to know who I am and why I support Grimes and oppose McConnell. If enough people did it and were just a few times it might be a good investment for America.
