Discussion: Mitch McConnell Reveals New Strategy To Attack Obamacare

Discussion for article #229543

Has Senator Yertle explained yet what arcane Senate trickery he will use to overcome a Presidential Veto, assuming his party even wins control of the chamber?

I just wish that whole slate of Mitch the Whore and his Three Johns (Barasshole, Thune and Cornhole) behind him in the stock photo would drive off a cliff.

The past is never dead. It’s not even past. Repealing ACA is the South’s latest zombie battle against the North in a Civil War that ain’t never gonna be over. Sen. Chinless Wonder (R-Closet) tryin’ to maintain his bonafides with the angry white mob will do whatever it takes to appease the nutjobs so he gets to twee in DC with his entourage of queens for six more glorious years.

"That sets up tension between the GOP’s establishment wing and the tea party wing. "

I wish the press would stop claiming there is a difference here.

This is what Republicans have to offer?

Having worked only 90-some days out of 365, they’re coming back with no plan to increase jobs, no plan to improve infrastructure, nothing to say on the Mideast, nothing about immigration reform, nothing about improving education, nothing about stopping Ebola, nothing about… nothing?

My, don’t they deserve a raise!

Just two days ago.:

“Well, I would imagine there will be a vote on repeal, but I — let’s be realistic, Barack Obama is still going to be in the White House for another two years, and he is not going to sign that,” Barrasso said. “I want to put things on his desk that he would actually give true consideration to signing, because they’re good for our economy, they’ll get people working again, and they’ll help move the country forward.”

And I suggested at the time Barasso was full of shit and I will say again he is full of shit. They’re all full of shit. Anyone that thinks the next few years won’t be spent repealing ObamaCare and nitpicking stupid shit (like Benghazi and other dumb ass investigations) instead of governing and trying to help move the country forward is fooling themselves. It will be ALL theater, ALL the time. That’s ALL they know.

It would ALMOST be enough for me if we lost the Senate and this guy lost, too. But of course, not really. Keeping the Senate and losing this guy would be the sweetest victory.

But here’s the thing: Unlike in gerrymandered congressional districts, the Democrats have the voters to at least keep the Senate. The key will be getting those people to vote. Why we only become energized during presidential elections is beyond me.

I’m not even talking about voting in primaries which seems to be WAY beyond the ken of the average person unless he’s a political junkie. In this case, just get your ass to the polls, hold your nose if need be, and pull the lever for the D person. That’s it.

For extra credit, help defeat any stray personhood amendments and the like that are out there. That shouldn’t be hard, but we are clearly struggling to make it happen.

As has been said many times elsewhere, Ds should be Ds. Say it loud, “I’m a D, and I’m proud.” And all them AAs who are so thrilled to have a AA in the White House need to know that a Republican Congress will neuter their man’s agenda. It’s not enough to have him sitting in the Oval Office like some figurehead on the bow of the ship. He needs to have the leverage to DO things.

Americans of almost any stripe do not respect people who run away from who they are and what they’ve done. Grimes not saying whom she voted for was a classic mistake. Of course she voted for Obama. Say it loud! And why! Or, if she didn’t for XYZ reason, say that loud. As my piano teacher told me, “All those wrong notes don’t become right notes just because you’re playing them softly. Make your mistakes at full throttle.”

Point goes triple for O’Care. “You don’t like the idea of being rejected for insurance because you’re sick through no fault of your own? With O’Care, you can’t be! I O’Care gets repealed, guess what? YOU will be vulnerable as will everyone in your family.” And on down the list. Counter every single charge loud and clear. We don’t have to become the uncompromising Tea Party of the Left to be tough and principled. We just have to be tough and principled.

“You want to repeal O’Care? Then why did you run the guy who implemented R’Care successfully in one state–call it the MA Exchange–and recommend it as a model for the rest of the country? Mitch, if you voted for Romney, then you voted for R’Care. Period.”

In short, if you’re afraid of losing, you’ll never win. At least, you’ll never win decisively. And you’ll always be playing defense.

“Tea party lawmakers want to rile up their base by going big and slashing as much of the law as possible, and daring Obama to veto their bills.”

Wow, that would put Obama in a real bind! He would be caught between accepting legislation that would gut his signature achievement and hence ruin his legacy and --what?-- making some tea party people angry at him (which would clearly be a first!). As a lame-duck president, what would he possibly do in that situation?

The democrats have been weak and helpless under McConnell obstruction and filibusters never having the capacity to figure out how to fight back and in most cases unwilling to fight back. It seems the minute McConnell takes control he’s already figured out procedural moves Reid was unaware of to bypass a filibuster, I’m sure Reid and the democrats will be weak and helpless to stop this as well

Well, America, you get the government you deserve… How about trying to vote for the people who want the best for you, not for the corporations.

Folks, I hate to rain on this parade celebrating the joys of having a POTUS with a veto pen. This is gong to be a perilous two years. Have you all forgotten the Rethugs propensity for “hostage taking?” At a minimum we will be looking at a couple or more federal government shutdowns. Worst case scenario is that the asylum inmates drive us, the national and world economies off the cliff with default on the “full faith and credit” of the US (debt ceiling.)

The whole veto thing is still around. Not to mention, the whole thing has always rang hallow. They want to dismantle the law and tout ambiguous alternatives. If they had an alternative, they have had enough time, than they should be pushing for that. At least that way they could make a case.

As it is, they want to go against Obama and then figure out at some point an alternative. Given that the GOP can agree on little, it will probably just involve removing regulations on the health care industry and creating high risk pools. Basically tossing people to the wolves.

A turtle (McConnell), a snake (Cruz) and an alien (Paul) will be running the senate if Dems don’t GOTV.
