Discussion: Missouri House Passes Photo ID Requirement For Voters

Discussion for article #244961

Since there has been no voter fraud the Repubs must be for bigger government since this will cost the tax payers more money to administer.

Voters would need to bring a form of government-issued photo ID

Which will be addressed next week, when they propose to stop issuing government-issued photo ID’s

Block that vote!!

It’s the only chance Rethugs have to win.

When all else fails–cheat. The Republican mantra.

This state is full of mouth breathing, knuckle-dragging neanderthals.

So the ID we may have to show to vote will not let us Federal buildings as it does not conform to Federal Real ID laws.

ID requirement wasn’t narrowly tailored and was an undue burden on voters,

Well lets see, you need an ID to buy booze.
An ID to buy cigarettes.
An ID to open a bank account.
An ID to apply for welfare.
An id to apply for medicaide/ madicare.
An ID to apply for a mortgage.
An ID to get an apartment.
An ID to buy/drive/rent an automobile.
An ID to adopt a pet.
An ID to get on an airplane.
An ID to purchase a gun.

Seriously, are we trying to say that as poor as some people may be, they do not do ANY of these things??? WOW!

I guess they wont actually be able to get to the voting station so it wont matter anyway!!!

The good news is that if there’s a constitutional amendment on a ballot, it’s possible to beat those as Minnesota showed. Support is very broad to start, but not deep, so facts do get through. The extra costs for small municipalities, the disenfranchisement of seniors who don’t drive any more, students who have nothing but their student ID, basically anyone who either would be affected or is capable of thinking outside their own experience is persuadable.

Would the states promoting limited types of picture ID for voting accept any and all of the IDs necessary for your enumerated activitys? Once upon a time in a republic not far away such IDs, as well as a phone or utility bill with your name and address, were sufficient for voting.

Seriously, we are saying that there is a documented, deliberate movement afoot to disenfranchise American citizens. This ain’t your older brother’s Republican Party anymore.

It’s the election commissioners job to be sure the voter rolls are correct. Why do his job for him?

What happens when a poll worker claims the picture on the ID is different from the person’s face, because of glasses or haircut or aging? My NY Driver’s Licence photo is nearly 25 years old. Will someone refuse to let me vote, or force me to go to a judge to get a court order allowing me to do so? Seems like a way to imbue poll workers with authority they do not warrant nor should they possess.

seems clear then that all the different groups, asking to have petitions signed or for money, need to get off of their collective butts and start getting people these photo IDs.We will have to work harder (always have), so cut the whining and get busy.

Lets see, 220,000 voter disenfranchised to prevent ZERO cases of voting fraud. I get it, maybe they will just stop issuing photo ids to dems. Obvious next step.

I agree, there is a fair amount of gerrymandering as well. At the top of that list i would add the illegal immigration has a fair amount of votes to go along with the cheap labor that come with that territory if we really want to be fair and balanced…
