Wonder if there is more to come…

What? No promising never to resign? No blaming the liberal media for ā€˜taking his words out of context’? No blaming te culture? Just up and quitting and going home to Mrs. Diehl who is waiting for him:

I find it amusing that he apologizes for the texting. But not for having the totally unethical relationship period. Essentially he is apologizing for being caught.

That’s not Mrs. Diehl. She’s holding the knife much too high.

Wow, that may be a record for shortest time between, ā€œI apologize…and look forward to moving on with the important work of <government body>ā€ and ā€œI resign from <government body>.ā€

I’m a little surprised there wasn’t the boilerplate about ā€œI don’t want the media frenzy to be a distractionā€¦ā€ as though it’s the media’s fault and he’s just a victim.

There really isn’t anything about this story that doesn’t make me feel icky.

I mean, c’mon, on one hand I know I’ve had text exchanges that read a lot like these and I dare say many of the rest of you have. Some of us were in a sexual relationship with the person at the other end, some of us were in a ā€œwe’ll never actually have sex and that’s what makes this so wrongā€ relationship, and there’s no way whatsoever to figure out which is which based on the exchanges. And, regardless, the idea of one of those exchanges being published in the paper is just horrifying and reading them makes you feel like a greasy voyeur or a snooping scandal-nosed Gladys Kravitz.

But then you get to the "he’s a married guy in his fifties doing this with a college freshman, for god’s sake and sweet jesus, it’s just so wrong! And then you get to ā€œholy crap, that poor girl must be mortified.ā€ I mean I can’t even work up a good case of schaedenfreude because of that. And then there’s the tiny lingering doubt about who was manipulating who in the whole thing.

Just . . . ick.

Does he REALLY expect ANYBODY believes him when he says he did not have sex with the college intern?

I mean come on… Just read those messages…

But we all know why he is dong this; he hopes his wife will believe him.

Simple as that.

Oh, and, of course, then there’s the absolute certainty that one or more of the truly repulsive fringe figures who slink around the edged of rightwing media are going to out this girl for no reason whatsoever, unleashing a disgusting torrent of dudebro slut-shaming. I can hardly wait for that part.

Diehl also ignored questions about the text messages when reporters caught up with him Wednesday night outside his office, although he responded with a firm ā€œnoā€ when one reporter asked if he’d had sexual relations with the intern.

Liar.

It is even worse – as this morally upstanding husband filed an amicus with the Supreme Court arguing for the ā€œsanctity of traditional marriage.ā€ The man is a major prick – and not the good kind. He is also an asshole – and, again, not the good kind. ā€œIckā€ doesn’t begin to describe this clump of cell tissues.

I give him a little credit for resigning without too much pre-resignation lying. That said, he is a liar. It should all come out in the divorce proceedings.

OK, is his wife going to ā€œcut it off and throw it out the windowā€ or is she just going to quietly continue taking the money?

What a putz. Lost his job, pissed off his wife, embarrassed his kids and STILL didn’t get laid.

I’m surprised he resigned. Usually Republicans gut it out with a claim that Jesus forgave them so it’s all good, while their wives stand next to them pretending to believe this crap. Might be fun to find out why he really resigned that fast.

He sure changed his tune since yesterday.

My bet is there is way more to this, and he can’t tie up all the loose ends. He probably doesn’t even know where all the loose ends are in this day and age. So he will ride off into the sunset instead.

Now if you want to get into some serious conspiracy stuff, there IS an alarming number of very disturbing stories bubbling up about the MO State GOP party lately, from leading gubernatorial candidates killing themselves, with others following in his footsteps, to this.

Then like Elliot Spitzer and David Vitter he persuades The Wife to stand by his side while he humiliates her. Hope she gets a chunk of his savings and retirement account when she walks out.

The texts found their way into the media somehow, and I think we can all agree it probably wasn’t the Honorable State Senator who leaked them. That leaves one other party here: the intern herself–unless it was someone she knows who leaked them without her consent. So whatever slut-shaming is coming her way, one would hope she’s prepared for that, because it was her actions that triggered this sequence of events. (I am NOT blaming her for her role in this, but it would appear she IS responsible for this thing going public.) Who knows, maybe she set him up on purpose? Lord knows these hypocritical family values assholes are all easy pickings for a sting of this type, and richly deserved it is.

That’s a good photo of Catherine Hanaway of the Tom Schweich suicide scandal with the God -fearing, now former Speaker of the MO House. Looks like she was his right hand man. Wonder if Diehl was also part of the Jewish ā€œwhisperingā€ campaign that ended with Schweich’s death. There is so much corruption in Jefferson City since the social conservative Republicans took over the legislature joining in an unholy alliance with billionaire Rex Sinquefield.
