Discussion: Mississippi Judge: Clerks Cannot Cite Religion To Abstain From Issuing Marriage Licenses

Finally, a sensible court ruling. You would have thought issuing a marriage license was like engaging in gay sex.
The minds, or lack there of, of these crazy legislatures with these crazy laws. Where are their minds?

It’s wrong for public servants to mistreat the public directly. It should be done indirectly, such as when Congress refuses to pass sensible gun legislation despite the fact that 90% of the public wants it.

He is a remarkable judge. For those of you that have not read it, his statement read to 3 white men convicted of the murderer of a black man is very powerful, and well worth checking out.

In an airport bathroom stall. With tapping toes and wide stances.

NTTAWWT, just don’t be a hypocrite.

Jesus fucking Christ, I thought we were through with this shit after that born again bitch with Huckabee was told to get her act together. Maybe it is time to start cracking down on these born again assholes.

The things I have a bona fide religious objection to, I can’t even begin to tell you until I have one of those gummint jobs.

This day just keeps getting better and better!

This country is finally moving away from the dark ages of the religious right’s strangle-hold on our country!

The heroes of the Evies that screw everything in a 5 mile radius are do-nothing government bureaucrats that are trying to get out of what little work they actually do. Personally I think it’s stupid but I do have a grudging respect for people who quit their jobs over religious objections. There aren’t many but there have to be a handful somewhere. The rest worship Mammon.

U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves - we’ll be hearing a lot more from him. Thanks blue_bear.

Why do so many folks in the Bible Belt appear to believe that their warped interpretation of Biblical law supersedes federal law?

The bigotry-obsessed folks in Mississippi who have been striving to legalize discrimination against the LGBT community are the same God-fearing Christian folks who still lament the passage of the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960’s and who cannot stomach the notion of interracial marriage.

Racial, religious, and gender identification intolerance – all variations on a theme that is all too prevalent in many of regions of America to this day.

Sssssh , don’t tell Kimmy , she’ll go bonkers . /s

Thank you so much for sharing that, BB.

Just to throw some icing on it … Remember when the Huck heralded the release from jail of his über-bigot queen (Kim Davis) to the triumphant strains of “Eye of the Tiger”?

That same day the co-author of the tune (Frankie Sullivan) announced that he didn’t authorize use of the tune. (He also noted that he wouldn’t even authorize Kim Davis to use Charmin.) He ended his statement with “See you real soooooooooN!” Then he sued the Huckster for copyright infringement.

Well, here’s a copy of first [of two] installment of the settlement:

Enjoy!
