Sure. He made just one single homophobic remark and Kluwe is the real problem. Me thinks the Vikings doth protest too much.

*This is a test of the Emergency Tea Party Tantrum Alert System. This is only a test.
Reminds me of the old question: “What is the first name shared by the most ignorant teacher in any school?”
Coach
Nuke them? What in heaven’s name provoked that comment? This guy has more problems than just hating gays. It appear that professional sports has become a haven for all kinds of mentally ill and anit-social personalities. Then they give them drugs to intensify the symptoms? Might as well employ the services of raging bulls and rabid dogs.
“We should round up all the gays, send them to an island, and then nuke it until it glows.”
I have a problem with describing that as a “homophobic remark” (actually this is a problem with the term “homophobia” more generally). “Homophobia” means “fear of the same” i.e., of gay people. Now it may well be true that fear underlies much violent discourse and many violent actions. But, still, if someone expresses the intent to commit genocide, we don’t say, “What a fearful thought!” Similarly, this coach’s statement, whatever its causes, is not one of fear but of profound hatred. That’s how it should be described. (Mishomoetic perhaps?)
homophobia:
irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuals or homosexuality
The American Heritage Dictionary (1992 edition) defines homophobia as “aversion to gay or homosexual people or their lifestyle or culture” and “behavior or an act based on this aversion.” Other definitions identify homophobia as an irrational fear of homosexuality.
First use of the term was made in 1969. I’ll leave the etymology of the word to the professionals.
It happened this way. Priefer had been helping his wife do the dishes. They’d been discussing the dangers of nuclear power a few moments earlier, leaving the word “nuke” in his mind. But they’d moved on to another important topic, gay rights.
Priefer had been expressing concern, because one of the gay players in the high school team he coached had come to him the other day, after having been gay-bashed. The player’s face was all cut up, and this left Priefer very sad.
So, he’d been thinking maybe all the gay people should have their own island. Then, he heard about how well radiation treatment had helped his mother fight cancer, and he thought maybe radiation treatment would help “the gays.”
His words were, of course, horribly misconstrued. As is clear in retrospect, he was inartful when he said “ship the gays to an island and nuke them til it glows.” But I’m sure the record will show that with the exception of this moment of mis-speaking, Priefer is a wonderful all-loving, hate-free gentleman. I’m sure he’s a mighty fine Christian. One of his very best friends is in Log Cabin Republicans, or will be in a moment.
Off topic: my services have helped Monsanto, Union Carbide, RJR Nabisco, and other misunderstood citizens. Let me help you! Call 1-800-PRO-LIAR today.
That’s right: “aversion” means “fear,” which are both English translations of the Greek word “phobos.” I guess I’m not clear on what you’re saying. Are you just elaborating on my point or are you somehow trying to take issue with it?
I’m fine with just calling people who consider genocide appropriate what they are, sociopaths.
Very good, but I think there still may be a kink in the ETPTA system. The proper spelling of “speech” is “speach,” according to the most reputable Tea Party Authorities. (See, e.g., “Mister Obama’s Brusels Speach” http://teapartyorganizers.ning.com/forum/topics/mister-obama-s-brusels-speach ,)
Dafuq? Offhandedly saying “anybody who doesn’t like sports is a fag” is a homophobic remark. Saying “We should round up all the gays, send them to an island, and then nuke it until it glows” is an indication that this guy is a fucking psycho.
Oh, come on. You forgot Jews. (Shoot. Forgot my Prime Directive: Don’t Feed The Trolls.)
Free speech is not absolute. With freedom of speech comes the responsibility not to abuse it. The classic example of that, of course, is that it’s illegal to yell “Fire!” in a crowded theater when there is no fire, for the obvious reason that to do so would likely touch off a panic and cause injuries or worse.
It’s likewise unrealistic to expect to say something slanderous or write something libelous about someone and not get sued for it. Those on the receiving end of such slander or libel have a right to seek redress.
The fact is, homophobia is becoming as socially unacceptable as racism and misogyny. And that, in my opinion, is a good thing.
Using “your” instead of “you’re” – sure sign it is a tea partier.
“I never said what I said!”
The mating call of the Flinty-eyed Teabagger.
You seem smart.
And if you hear a hoarse, high-pitched scream, that’s Mark Levin warning us about the tyrant Obama and the “intolerant Left!”
Pathetic.
You forgot to credit me for taking my joke.
You can feed 'em if you want. Seems like the mods hit 'em with Roundup before they can take root.
Please proceed, 9mm – though you’re probably more of a .25 than a 9mm…
