The military has made security arrangements for past presidents before, including being present in former President Barack Obama’s Chicago home.
I’m not sure why this was included in the article - unless Pres. Obama was renting a room to the military in their home.

How much rent did the military pay the Obamas, Bushes, Clintons, Bushes, Reagans, Carters, Fords, Nixons, Johnsons, and Kennedys, combined? You don’t even have to use inflation adjusted dollars for this calculation.
Like any government contract, they should be forced to bid it out. If the closest they can get is Jersey City, so be it.

Captain Obvious here. Pretty sure Trump’s home in Manhattan is larger than Obama’s home in Chicago. If the Pentagon solved this problem by being present in Obama’s home, they can be present in Trump’s home.

The problem here is, once again, that the accommodations being sought in Trump’s case are going to end up being paid for into Trump’s pocket. Because every other President has separated himself from business entanglements.
That being said, this line in the TPM report is very misleading:
“The Department of Defense is working to rent space in Trump Tower in order to provide security to President Donald Trump and his family while they are in the building, CNN reported Tuesday evening.”
They are NOT providing security to Trump, providing security is the SS’s mission, not the DoD’s. They are providing logistics and support for when the President is residing there instead of in D.C. I suspect a similar arrangement is being investigated in Florida for him as well. Which again, brings up full circle back to…Trump is cashing in on being President because he refuses to separate himself from his businesses, and so far…Congress isn’t doing a thing about it.
